I found out today that I have mono.
-Should I be eating/drinking any thing in particular?
-Should I be avoiding any foods?
-How long should I stay out of work?
I don't even know the side-affects of what I have, other than that my throat hurts really bad.
Any feedback is appreciated...thanks

Oh man, mono such a drag. Well when i had it what happend was that i would be really weak a lot of the time and it would go away for a while then come back a couple of weeks later. Any little thing can get you sick again. It lasted on and off for about 3 months i think. Take Care of yourself. :)

hang in there, kanga
i've never had it, but i know a couple of guys who've had. one is right here. he says that the bacteria takes a year to leave your bod. you're gonna be WEAK so don't overexert yourself. don't run.
he said to eat/drink whatever your throat can handle and be sure to see a doctor (if you haven't already)

Mono is not caused by a bacterium, and it does not leave the body. It's caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (a human herpesvirus) and it establishes latency after the primary infection.

Yes, mono sucks. I became sick with it a few months a couple of years ago.
At first my doctor thought it was strep, but after my blood was tested, I found out it was mono.
The only rules they gave me were no kissing or sharing drinks with anyone so as not to spread it. I didn't have much weakness (at least not for long). The only frustrating thing, other then a sore throat, was having recurring fevers which made me feel really crummy. This was over Christmas/New Years break, so I didn't have too swell a holiday.
Pretty much eat or drink whatever you usually do. Eating ice cream or sorbet will help your throat. Drink plenty of water, as they tell you whenever you're sick. I was told to take several advil a day for a while as well. I think I was on a prescription, too, but I think that was only for the strep.
Hope you feel better soon!
