I'm having my wisdom teeth removed in a few days. I'm wondering what I should eat the days after surgery. Everything I read just says eat "soft foods". Can someone please be a little more specific. Thanks.

Nothing, lol. No, I'm just kidding. My brother had hisulled, he ate stuff like tuna. We brought him a salad one night, and he ate the lettuce piece by piece. He was prescribed Vicodin. Well at least the pain is gone now. Wisdom teeth really suck, I hope I could help. Don't laugh, it'll hurt! :) lol

A friend of mine had all four of her wisdom teeth pulled. She would eat baby food and even use a little baby spoon. She also drank everything from straws for a while as she could not open her mouth up very much. What about some health shakes like slimfast, ensure, etc. just in case you are hungry but can't chew very well?

I had all four of them pulled at once and believe me it was hell for a week. DO NOT drink from a straw! Why? Because you do not want to suck out those sutures. Those sutures are very fragile and can be easily disturbed.
DO NOT eat hard and crunchy stuff like potato chips. You need to eat food that require little or no effort.
Do eat stuff like pudding, jello, applesauce, etc... Drink lots of Gatorade to keep your self hydrated. Trust me, during your recovery period, you're not gonna want to eat because it hurts so bad!
Depending on how fast you heal and how good your oral surgeon is will determine your recovery time.
I know this one guy who went to a general dentist and had his wisdom teeth pulled one a week for four weeks. He suffered for a whole month! What an idiot!

I had all 4 wissies pulled many years ago. I ate a lot of yoghurt! Be careful if they give you pain medication as you usually need to take them with food. (the baby food sounds like a good idea, wish I'd though of it!) You could also try "smoothies and shakes". Just throw a bunch of good stuff in a blender.
I have memories of waking in severe pain and having to shovel down some yoghurt so I could take my pain meds. (remember, don't take them on an empty stomach!) Believe me you are not going to want to eat "crunchy stuff"!...Tagger

I want to first repeat what someone else said in another reply - DO NOT USE A STRAW!
That said, I can tell you that after having my impacted wisdom teeth out several years ago, I ate a lot of ice cream. (Sooo healthy!). But seriously, make yourself fruit shakes and stuff with lots of ice, the colder you make them, the better, that way you may be able to do without the pain medication they prescribe you. (I can't remember what I was given, but it made me so nauseous that I stopped taking it and just relied on very cold beverages. That helped.)
My other advice: ask for your teeth!!! If you don't ask, they just throw them away. I have mine in a little plastic bag... :bouncing:
Good luck!

If you don't have a sweet tooth (i.e. you don't want to live on yoghurt etc.) then try mash potatoes in all sorts of varieties.
I had a very bad tooth/root infection a while ago and had to eat very soft food for a week or so (they didn't give me any painkillers and I didn't want to OD on paracetamol etc.), I mainly had soft veggie hot dogs and soft fries (not crunch) as well as those mash potato packs you can buy that you just pour hot water on and stir & let stand, they saved my life! ;)
A bit of salt is OK (you will more likely than not be asked to gargle/flush your mouth with warm salt water to help the wound heal) but try not to eat anything spicy/crunchy/sharp as this will sting like hell!

SOUP SOUP SOUP
when I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, I made up tons and tons of soup (homemade vege soup) and froze it in meal sized containers.
Also DO NOT BRUSH your teeth. Use a Salt water mouth wash for a week to 10 days until the gums heal up.
Good luck

Definently do not use a straw. I did and it cause me to have 4 dry sockets! it was the worse pain in my life and I could talk because of it. The doctor will most likly give you the same warning, mine did, but it didn't seem possible at the time....(I was young and didn't listen much). With the pain and being drugged up, you wont be that hungary for big meal, I lived off of soup, yogart, and ice cream for a week. The ice cream was the best since it was so cold, it kinda soothed my mouth.

I had my wisdom teeth removed yesturday around 3pm. It is now 24 hours later and I am still numb. I have been drinking milk shakes since I got homes yesturday. I'm actually not even hungry but I figured eating will help me heal a lot faster. The fact that I am still numb from my bottom left lip to my chin is annoying. Other than that I am having no pain. The pain killers aren't working for me so I am using advil which is working perfectly. I bled a lot afterwords but I guess that was to be expected w/ surgery. My top wisdom teeth were already in so I am experiencing no pain from them. The worse part about the surgery for me was that I just would not pass out...they kept drugging me and nothing. They were making fun of me LOL...the surgery seemed to last like ten minutes but it was actually a 30 procedure. Not too shabby for me...good luck!

Baby food or ensure,
If you feel hungry drink ensure it will fill you up very fast but I had mine removed a few weeks ago and you will know what you can eat or not you know yourself. You can basicly eat anything but it is the pain that will make you avoid hard food.
Good luck
Ice, and ice cream will make you feel better
