I'm 16, and I'm new here. I have a few questions...
I think I have a cyst on the inside of my bottom lip and it's been there for about 2 months I guess. It started out as just one of those cold sore type things that go away real fast like 3-4 days, and the cold sore did, but then i thought the part underneath started to swell up, and it was tender...but now that's all gone, and it's just the bubble part - real small, I guess about the size of the round tip of my pinky. I was wondering if any of you know what this really is and how I might treat it? It's really starting to annoy me that it's there. It doesn't hurt, it just feels in the way.
Also, I have had these "styes" in my eyes for about a year now. I had had one before but it went away within a week. These things are not going away, not even with medication. I don't know what to do. There are about 3 in each eye. They are underneath my top eyelids. They reduce and grow in size but never completely go away. They don't itch. They burn sometimes when I take a shower, and sometimes when i get something in my eyes, they start to twitch. Very rarely do they itch though. I'm wondering, instead of seing a doctor, should I seek a dermatologist about these things? Or do any of you know what I might be able to do about them? I'm tired of them.
My mom says she thinks I have a type of skin/mucus virus or something. But I don't know! Please help!

I get skin tags on various places of my body from time to time. Sometimes I'll pick at them and they get sore and bleed. The doctor (and others) told me they are harmless and benign (non-cancerous). A lot of people get them and my grandmother (father's side) has had lots of them all her life. I'm thinking styes, wens, cysts, etc are similar. If they really bother you, you can have the dermatologist freeze them off (or just "scoop" them) with a surgical scalpal (which is how I had a large mole removed from my back recently). Sounds painful but the give you an injection first to numb the area up.
Good luck :)

For help with the styes you need to see an opthomologist (not an optomitrist) and he will give you some specific medication for you styes. Always remember not to touch the stye with your hands and if you do have your hands anywhere near you eyes you must wash them well with soap and water and the styes are contagious. Also if you wash your face with a washcloth use a separate washcloth for your infected eye so you do spread the bacteria to the other eye and don't let any other people use your washcloth. As for the "cyst" in your mouth see the doc about this. Since it started as a cold sore aka herpes you may need to use some special medicine to totally heal this up.
