View Full Version : Mind never seems to work

My mind does'nt seem to work at all sometimes. This is in addition to all of my other problems except I've never really discussed it with anyone. It's just one of those little "things" in life that I figure are just part of the "human condition".

Anyway, As far back as I can remember, I get these periods lasting from between 3-4 days to a whole week where I feel like my IQ drops to something like the IQ of a clump of mud. During these periods, it is nearly impossable for me to complete a sentence, retain a thought, pronounce words, articulate ideas or carry on a smooth conversation with anyone without screwing it up. Even when I try to type on the keyboard, I am all "thumbs" and that gets messed up. It's like there is some kind of curse hanging over me just trying to screw up every thing I say or do. Murphy's law comes to mind.

Also, I tend to do weird things like putting a sponge in the freezer or pouring my cereal into a dog dish - and much stranger. Very scatterbrained and even something as simple as running into the living room to tell my freind that a movie is coming on evokes major fear that I will not be able to get the words out properly (and usually, I don't).

I really don't think this is part of some major disease process going on because I also have long periods of time where the "genious" in me comes out and I am the life of the party...witty, smart, etc. I have suffered from depression, anxiety, OCD, Tourette's and ADD ever since I was a child (I'm 40 now). Would any of these disorder cause these things?

Thank's

ive felt that way somtimes..not as bad though..ive just felt that socially i'm out there and just not thinking as much...so i'm reading about meditation, it's supose to help you look beyond stress and greed and help you serpate your wants from your needs..it's also supose to help you concentrate on your daily life more...it may sound weird but i'm giving it a try, so if you have any freetime just read about it on the internet..i am currently reading a book called MINDFULNESS IN PLAIN ENGLISH written by Venerable Henepola Gunaratana. just beacause you meditate doesn't make you a buddist (many christians do it aswell, you can also look up christian mediataion if that's your religion) many americans do it to get away from stress and to sharpen their minds

I feel the same way too. I am suffering from hypothyroidism and this is one of the symptoms from it. You may want to check the thyroid section of this board.-Roni
