hi, i am 20 years old. i am 6ft and weigh only about 120 lbs. :( this really stinks. i used to weigh 132 which is still really thin of course. but then i started losing some weight after going into some anxiety. so i started losing my appetite a little. one day i was in the weight room at school lifting weights and i must have exhausted my body because that was when i had my first attack with my heart rate at like 200bpm. ever since then my muscles have been twitching all over and im really scared i have ALS or something. i've had many tests though and all is normal. i dont know if my body will ever recover. im just full of anxiety and twitching now :( i am really trying to eat now in hopes of gaining weight and then maybe my anxiety will go away.

Please don't feel so down. My 17 year old son is almost 6 feet and he's 125lbs. So ya'll are about the same. Guess what...he's not a twitcher...I am though.
I've been twitching for about 9 months now. I've had all the tests too. They say mine is from anxiety also.
At one point I thought I could have ALS but I don't and you don't either.
Did your doc tell you, you have benign fasciculation syndrome(BFS)=benign twitching syndrome. I could almost bet that's what you have..exact same thing as I. I am a nervous person and from your post, you are also. Basically it's an over abundance of adrenaline going through our bodies for whatever reason(anxiety is my bet). My neurologist told me that it could go away in a few weeks, months, years or never. Our systems could be permanently altered. Please don't be saddened by this one sentence. People LIVE with abnormalites all the time..diabetes, arthritis, kidney&liver problems and we all live with these conditions, we just adjust.
Yours might even go away completely :)
Did your doc give you any meds, such as:xanax, klonopin to help with feeling less anxious??
Please don't let this make you sick into losing weight. You're a young HEALTHY young man, with much going for you. Don't let this destroy your life.
Now go eat a pizza and try to relax and live your life to the fullest.
Remember, we're twitchers and we're neighbors(I live in Houston.. )
Relax,
Renee :)

wow thanks for the great post. yeah i love to visit houston all the time :) but yeah my doctor gave me xanax but im not the type to take meds. i did have a tumor in one of my adrenal glands when i was 8 years old so it was removed and now i have one adrenal gland. i was checked again for the tumor but my other gland is fine now. i am wondering if it still may be shooting too much adrenalin into my body. but i mean my adrenal hormones are normal. i dont know. guess i'll just have to live with this. one thing is for sure though, i have been eating a lot more and im starting to feel a bit better. when i was 17 i was 132 i think but somehow lost it. my neurologist did tell me it was bfs, but then i got scared cause now i have chronic pain in my left thigh when i sit down. anyhow, im just gonna have to deal with this and since im still growing up, hopefully i will grow out of this. but i have a fear that im not gonna grow anymore or get older which is kinda funny. i just need to chill out; thanks for your wise words :)
oh does your son complain of palpitations a lot? cause i get those a lot; a lot of tall skinny people do

Good saturday morning to ya'!
As a matter of fact my son DOES get palpatations. When it happens, he turns into that little boy I used to have. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bigcry.gif I have to talk him through it because it scares him.
I'm 5'9 and weigh 135 and I get palpatations also. I don't know what it is about height and palpatations, but it seems alot of tall people go through this. Oh and another thing you have in common with my son is the leg pain. He's had this since 5 grade. The doc did tell us there is such a thing as "growing pains" that really does hurt. You're right you still are growing. My brother-in-law 6'4 was only 6 feet at high school graduation and continued to grow to 6'4 and stopped at 23. So "we" tall people have alot to deal with..besides the "do you play basketball" question
Have fun today, and a beautiful day in Texas it is!
Be a kid, go to Schlitterbahn, ride the masterblaster HEE HEE, I love that ride. When I go there I'm 20 years old again, but my son still doesn't want to hang out with me :D
You take care, and don't worry..you have my permission to worry when your 70 years old, not before.
Renee :)

you could try weight gain shakes like you find at GNC, or products like Boost Plus or Ensure Plus. They have a lot of calories in just a small amount so that you don't have to eat as much to get the calories in, if you are having a problem with a lack of appetite. Boost Plus has 360 calories in 8 or 10 oz (I foget exactly).
I think that you should give your Xanax prescription a try. If you experience side effects you can always stop taking it. I have known lots of people on it, however, and none had any side effects and it really helped their panic attacks.

hehe wow renee your son is very much like me with the leg pains and everything. well, i felt rather good yesterday... better than most days. all of a sudden i started having this huge appetite yesterday and have been eating a lot. and i think that is a key for me feeling better.
emotion sickness - i bought a lot of gnc stuff a while back and my doctor got mad at me. told me to take all that crap back. i dont think docs like that stuff. anyhow, im just gonna eat more. if i stay skinny, i will stay skinny, just as long as i keep eating its ok.
renee - i think skinny people are more vulerable to anxiety disorders cause we feel everything in our body cause we are so thin. like i can clearly see my heart beating through my chest and feel it in my back when i lay my back against something. although being skinny isn't bad i really cant stand it honestly :( i mean i dont mind being skinny but im way skinny. i hope i can put on some pounds now that im trying to eat more. well, im gonna go about my sunday and try to enjoy it. thanks for all the help :)

For info on skinniness and xanax -- When I first met my husband he was 24 and weighed 125 lbs. He is 5'10". He was having problems with anxiety and doc put him on xanax, which didn't help to make things any better. The xanax just put him into "la la land" and he would be out of it for hours. He also became addicted to it and had to take himself off of it. So becareful if you are still taking the xanax. As for the weight, can't worry about it so much. You are still young. Give yourself a few years and your metabolism will slow down and you will put on some weight. Hubby is now 32 and weighs between 155 and 160.

well i recently had an mri of my back and i just found out i have a lesion in my lower back. this may be causing the pain and twitching in my leg. i may need a biopsy to determine if it's cancerous or not :( more than likely its not.

Hi Sly, Please get yourself checked out and rule out "Marfan Syndrome" with a cardiologist. (Some cardiologists do not even know what this is unless it's a good doctor. I have this and you might have this because of your complaints. The characteristics are being long , tall, very skinny, having extended boney fingers, a high mouth palate, heart troubles (palpitations) and eye problems. Marfan shows all or SOME of these characteristics. I don't mean to scare you but a few of tall professional basketball players have this and don't even know it. I say this because a couple have already died because of going into cardiac arrest. Also check out Marfan Syndrome in a Yahoo/Google search for yurself. Do you have eye problems? Please let me know because I am very interested. Please go to a cardiologist and don't rule this out. Lydia :0)

thanks for your help. that syndrome sounds scary but i dont think i really have it. my aorta is not dialated. and i just had a bone scan and my bones are fine. ive had an echocardiagram, EKG, 24hr holter monitor, all normal. although i am tall and skinny and my fingers are rather long, i still cant palm a basketball like a lot of others. my eyes are healthy though i am very nearsighted. i do want to see my cardiologist though he says he says im fine since all my tests are normal. but i am always concerned about cardio.
