I have seasonal allergies. I have taken grape seed extract for almost a year. I started taking it for it's antioxidant properties, but found that I have not had allergy symptoms since I have been on it. In doing some further reading on grape seed, I found that one of it's major benefits is allergy relief. Has anybody out there tried this suppliment for allergies?

I just purchased some grapeseed extract for my allergy symptoms. How long does it take before i feel some relief? And how do i take it? thankyou
Ginli,
First make sure you bought a grapeseed extract that has at least 90% polyphenols in it. I would think it's effectiveness in helping your allergy symptoms would depend on how severe your allergies are. I have spring and fall allergies...to grass and many plants that bloom, etc. I take a minimal of 60mg of standardized grapeseed extract a day. I have read that 120mg is a good dose for the average size person with moderate seasonal allergies. Look up "grapeseed" on the internet. There are a few good sites with some info that will tell you of it's many benifits.

I've been taking the OPC-3 for about 4-5 months now and have had tremendous allergy relief. I'd been having some pretty severe respiratory distress and congestion when I began taking it. Within a week ALL the symptoms were gone. We've also had success in alleviating sinuses, headaches, colds, etc. I've never taken anything like it.
Good Luck!

Interesting thread, I thank you all for the information. My SIL just sent me some products, one of which contains 300mg grapeseed extract in the hopes of helping me with problems I've had since 12/12 when I woke up with total body hives from ??? we do not know what I reacted to. Appreciate the info!

I use a Chinese herbal product called 'Pi Min Kan Wan' which has grapeseed in it along with licoice root and other herbs. It is inexpensive and it works great. A box of 50 pills is about $4.00. You take 3 at each meal and you start about 2 weeks befor allergy season. I usually take 4 weeks worth and I'm good for a year. I might add that I am asthmatic and have severe allergies...I have had no side effects at all from this product. Available at Chinese herbal stores ONLY. Watch what you buy and that it is authentic...there is a 'cerificate of authenticity' around the bottle in the box if it is the ral stuff. Some companies sell placebos...they don't work.
