I previouly posted.....
"I would just like to know if any one has had and I am quoting this... "L5- S1 right parancentral disc herniation which extends into the spinal canal approximately 6 cm. This abuts the right S1 nerve root as it descends in the lateral recess. Disc displaces the thecal sac narrowoing".
It has caused me to be out of work Monday and again today. I actually was up, finally dressed and ready to go but knew I couldnt take the whole day feeling the way and the pain I am. I went to the doctors office on Monday and he gave me a non narcotic med but it still "knocks me out" so to speak and in my work we have to be alert at all times. I am probally going to go into the Er but know they will do nothing for me. MY doctors appointment with the spinal doctor is not until October 14th. My boss seems to be really understanding and asked if there was anything she could do I told her if she could get me in to see the doctor any time sooner that would be great but she said she wished she could.....I am worried about my job simply because they are/have been doing a lot of down sizing and I am afraid us with back problems will be the first on the cut list. I am probally being totally unrealistic and I am sure I have nothing to worry about but it is still a concern in addition to the health issues I am having. I love my job and I think I do a really good job at what I do. I always give 100% and more daily as I try to. Any advice on what I should do today other than take it easy. Do you think a trip to the ER would benefit. May be even going to the other big hospital we have here as the one I went to before where I work did nothing for me the last time. I am considering going and seeing what happens, may be they will call in the the doctor I am suppose to see in October. Any advice would be greatly apprieciated! God bless you all and thanks for any and all replies in advance.

You need to see your normal doc and have him call the spinal doc to have them see you on an emergency basis if things are really bad. All doc normally have some time slots open for emergency cases. If you normal doc won't do this for you then you best option might be to try calling the spinal docs office and asking to speak to his nurse. Tell her your situation and when you appointment is but ask her to talk to the doc to see if there is anything he can do for you or recommend that you do. He may make an exception and see you sooner or at least will be able to tell you what to do until he can see you.

I have two ruptured disks in my neck and physical therapy worked wonders along with some sort of electical stimulation that they do. Before you go having surgery, be aware that artificial disks are currently in trial phase and the surgeon I saw recommended that I wait for those if I ever had to have surgery. When you fuse the disks, the surrounding disks take more pressure. If you smoke, you might seriously consider quitting. Smoking limits the oxygen and affects the nerve endings.
