Hi-I am hoping to get some responses to this: Am 35 and having tonsils out 10-22. It is due to a "cyst" that is most likely benign on one of my tonsils.
-Has anyone (adult) NOT had a horrendous experience with this? I just had a hysterectomy in August and what I have read here on tonsillectomy scares me more than my other surger did!
-Is there a lot of bleeding? The idea of choking on and coughing up blood almost does me in.
-Do you lose your voice after the surgery for awhile?
-I am an office manager at a family business and sit at a desk all day and wouldn't need to talk on the phone or anything. How long before I will feel well enough to go back to work?
-ANY other advice would be MOST appreciated!

Dont worry you will be fine. I had my tonsils out when I was 22, and had no problems. You will have a sore throat for about a week or two, your voice will be weak for a few days. As for the blood, yes you will be spitting up some, just dont eat anything solid for about a week, lots of ice cream!! ANything that scracths your throat could cause the insicion site to open and hemmorage. Just do what the doctor tells you and you will be fine, but I do reccomend not eating anything solid for a week at least. Your doc. will porbably tell you that you can eat after 2-3 days(thatI dont agree on), but to me after what I experinced I would reccomend a week. Hope that helps you some. Good luck with your surgry, you will fine. I had a hystertomy 4 years ago, and I would rather have my tonsils out any day over that kind of surgry again.

I had my tonsils out when I was 21 and it was a painfuil experience. I had an abcess on my tonsils and couldn't eat or drink anything because the pain was so bad, however it does not last forever, about 4-7 days, hang in there and try to drink fortified drinks when you can handle liquids to keep up adequate nutrition.
