I have a (still) semi-undiagnosed inner ear disorder that causes me to be dizzy, and therefore nauseous. I used to have severe vertigo attacks that had me lying on the floor spinning and crying and heaving for days on end, and now it's small bouts throughout the day of dizziness. It's been going on for sooo long that I'm almost USED to being dizzy, but cannot STAND the nausea. I get extremely angry and anxious when I'm nauseous and it's to the point of wanting to crawl out of my own skin. My problem is that even when I'm NOT dizzy or having a dizzy spell, I have bouts of nausea. I'm not sure if it's related to something I'm eating, or what. I DO smoke(I know it's horrible)and I find SOMETIMES if I smoke too often I become nauseous, but I'm not sure if that's it or not. Any ideas? Thanks :)

Wow, Solstice...that's horrible what you're dealing with! Could you talk to your doctor about a prescription for an anti-nausea medication such as Phenergan? I couldn't imagine why they would have a problem with this, especially since you're dealing with this on a daily basis. Couldn't hurt to inquire about it!

There are many meds for nausea caused by inner ear disorders, like previous poster mentioned.
Has Meniere's Syndrome been ruled out in your case by the way?
The nausea can be controlled...what have you tried so far?

Meniere's is mostly ruled out because I don't get tinnitus, ever. I've tried Meclizine for nausea and it actually made me feel really crappy and anxious. For me, Meclizine has helped only when I'm having SEVERE vertigo to the point of wanting to go to the hospital, because even though it made my heart pound, it kept me from throwing up, although it never did help with the dizziness. The last time I had severe vertigo, I tried Valium, and it worked! Valium definitely saved me last time, but I only use it for dire emergencies because of its addictive qualities. And today, I did an experiment. Smoking IS making me nauseous. Of course I know that smoking is sucking in poisons and that it's horrible for me, but I don't know why it would start affecting me like this now. I've been smoking for years and only RECENTLY is it making me nausous. Today, I held off smoking for a few hours after I woke up, and when I smoked a cigarette, I got a pressurized sensation in my ears and in my head, and I got dizzy and nauseous. That shows I have to quit of course, and I was going to anyway, but I still would love to know the reason this is happening now when it didn't for years. Thank you for your response :)

Hi Solstice! I just wanted to share with you...I too got nauseous from cigs...I quit in June and my nauseous is GONE.
(I knew it was from my smoking, however)
Also I had ear issues (not as severe as yours, though).
Since I quit, they are gone.
However I do take alergy shots and had 20 new "molds" added to my serum.
My ENT suspects that molds are part of ear problems.
Do you take allergy meds? I recommend trying that & quitting smoking.
My daughter gets nauseous from allergies. As long as she is on Clartin she is OK.

I have something called labyrithitis that causes those symptoms. What helped me the most was sniffing up saline solutions in to the sinus. Since the sinus and those tubes to your ears who's name I can't remember are connected, it tends to reduce swelling and help the trapped gook (sorry to use such technical terms, lol) in your ears clear up which reduces or eliminates the dizzyness and nausea. The meclizine (sp?) just made me feel dry and dizzy. Give it a try, it is inexpensive and makes a world of difference for me.

Thanks you, I'll definitely try the saline thing. In response to another post, I do take allergy medication. I take Zyrtec, and I also take Singulair for asthma. I used to get allergy shots, too, and I'm planning on starting that again because they were extremely helpful after a while. Thanks for everyone's responses :)

Do try them. They have become very good at the serums now.
