My body's metabolism is stupidly fast. I hate it! Yes, it does have its advantages. However, I suspect that the medication I am on is not getting absorbed properly because of my quick metabolism. Is that something that can actually happen? Can a person's metabolism be so quick that it prevents proper absorbtion? If so, what can I do about it? Any information would be helpful.

Had your thyroid checked?

Yes, hyperthyroidism speeds up your metabolism which CAN cause many problems. If you haven't had it checked, make an appointment with your doctor.

Hi Andrew-
Why do you suspect your metabolism is too fast?
Is it because some meds you are on don't seem to be working? Or are you having any specific symptoms?

just a short note, i think when you talk about metabolism, you speak in terms of high and low.
you think yours is high? i am 6ft and 130 pounds. mine is very very high. i think meds get absorbed properly but i think lower dosages should be applied more for people with high metabolisms.

It's hard to know what you mean by metabolism. I used to have to eat a lot because I would get hungry within fifteen minutes of every meal. I kept eating and eating and losing wieght. I felt like I was spending so much money on food and never getting anything out of it. I asked doctors about it and they simply told me to eat more. So, I did. My favorite snacks were fruits, especially apples and apple products. Turns out I was eating too much sugar - natural sugar - and I made myself hypoglycemic. My pancreas would overreact to the increase in sugar after eating fruit and I would end up hungry. Finally, I had a doc tell me to add protein to every snack and it worked. No more starving myself with food.
I doubt that it would have any impact on medication, though. If you don't think your meds are working, talk to your doctor.

^^ the above post... learn something new everyday. I get hungry after a few minutes of eating a meal. i guess i should cut on the sugar. i actually sorta knew this but wasnt really aware of it. i have been eating a whole lot and been gaining some weight. i am kinda concerned about the protein though cause everytime i get my urine checked they say my protein is kinda high, but they say it's perfectly fine and my kidneys are functioning ok.

You should add complex carbs, too. It's just that protein is so much easier. Who has time for brown rice? Whole wheat pasta? There are a lot of ideas, but just a little peanut butter, nuts, or cheese works wonders. It always feels like I am consuming more fat than before, though. I probably cut back too much on the fruits and veggies, just because I used to feel so terrible being so hungry. It is so difficult to get it all in perfect balance!
