has anyone here had hypnotherapy for their irritable bowel syndrome? this is offered in Manchester and is very successful on selected patients

There is a definite mind / gut connection. That is undisputable. I would assume that the hypnotherphy works by either breaking negative mind / gut connections and / or reinforcing positive ones.
Usually a negative mind response, such as stress, will create problems in the gut. I'm sure the therapist works on changing that cycle.
It should work. The therapist would also teach relaxation techniques that would help break the negative cycles.

Is this the same thing as colonics? I have had that done and it is very helpful with ibs-c

No, it's not. I'm talking about hypnosis...where they put you in a trance like state...."you are getting sleepy" It could work. I know of people who have quit smoking that way!!! It is mind over matter so to speak.
