A short time ago I asked about Dr Jho. I had mostly good response on this guy. He's been doing alot of athletes and I've been reading about his approaches for about 5 years. I have a surgery scheduled for next Tuesday the 11th. I live in Connecticut so I'm 8 hours out on the drive plus some of the jitters. 15 years ago I had a posterior procedure at C5-6 for a herniation para-central and to the right. I did everything I could to avoid a fusion and that's the present plan. Now I have a slight reherniation and a spur. I appreciate all feedback.

Im fairly new to the message board but i have been researching Dr Jho alot also.I have recently been diag with a large herniated c-5c-6 disc with bone spurs and cord compression causing cervical meylopathy. I will be anxious to hear how things go for you with him, my mri and records are being mailed out to him tomarrow for a review. I asked my local neuro Dr. bajaw about him and he said he was a "big fan" of his and worked with him before. My local ns recommened for me to have an anterior diskectomy and fusion using bengal fibre cage with healos which is a bone growth stimulator and my own bone marrow. It sounded alot better than my own graft or cadaver bone.Good luck with your surgery. sewlf

Hi Pino,

I too am scheduled for surgery with Dr Jho on the 11th
on c6/c7 herniation with bone spur ( no cord compression thankfully)
I have a herniation at c2/c3 , no symptoms as it is a "central" herniation that isn't impinging on "anything"
bulges at 2 other levels
I am moderately nervous but we have the right man for the job
I'll see you in Pitts, my pre-op is 1200 the 10th
I'll leave Sunday, 7 hrs from NJ

Hey Mike I have to see him on the 10th at 2:00. I went through this before but it's been awhile. I'm not big on being " put to sleep " or the " drill " part of the procedure. I have read many articles written about his procedures both by him and about him. I know the deal step by step. There is no perfect ending but it's got to beat the fusion alternative. Patrick

Hey man all I can say is send your MRI to him and give it a thought. All I know is I am totally against anything to do with fusion. It has it's place but it is thrown around way to easily without any alternative consideration. If someone has known cervical instability or has severe multi level degeneration or instant trauma such as car accident and does not have the time to research their problem than I can agree with fusion. It is too permanent and has way too many negatives for me. Pino

Hi Patrick,

I have my pre op appt on the 10th at 1200
I have had multiple surgeries with general anasthesia , this is my first cervical op ..
I was apprehensive about the intubation (I make my living talking) little did I know that when I had septum surgery in Feb I was intubated

not thrilled about having my neck cut, but thoroughly convinced he's the best at what he does
You've seen the Kurt Angle story... I have a hunch Mike Alstott of the Bucs conferred with him as well
Our paths will probably pass at some point ....
I have no doubt we'll do well
I am very preoccupied , will meditate prior to relax

Mike I did read on Kurt Angle. That helped. Hey did you read any of sick of pains interaction with Jho. That is the only negative I have ever heard. How could he have missed all the herniated material? My problem is slightly less in pain and symptoms but more prior scar material. He has to navigate around that stuff to find the spur and herniation. I am going to make sure that is covered. I'm just ramblin' Good to know I sort of know someone else. Never been to pittsburgh. What's your plan on length of stay and where. I'll probably stay at the Hampton. I am hoping I can split on Wednesday. Patrick

Hope your surgery works out well. FYI, it was
just a coincidence that Alstott consulted and had
surgery in Pittsburgh:

I see here that in just a few days that some of you will be in the operating room. I will be praying for each and every one of you. I will check back to see if any of you have posted after surgery. Take care and don't be afraid. God Bless...
