Looking for second surgical opinion for lg herniated c-5c-6 dics with bone spurs causing meylopathy. Local ns recommended cervical diskectomy and fusion with carbonfibre cage and healos(bone growth stimulator) and my own bone marrow. This sounded much better than my own bone or cadaver bone. Anyone with any experience with Dr cammias or this procedure I described would be greatly appreciated.MY local ns said this is very new. thanks sewlf

Hi,

I can't tell you anything about your particular procedure, but I can tell you a little bit about Dr. Cammissa. He did a lumbar surgery on my husband back in 1993. The surgery was completely successful, and my husband has had no pain whatsoever (related to the back surgery, that is) since. Also, sometime after my surgery, I met a man in my local pharmacy. He'd had cervical spinal surgery with Dr. Cammissa, and his surgery, too, was a complete success. I've always been sorry that I didn't think of going to Dr. C. for my own surgery, but it all happened so fast with me that I had no time to think!

Anyway, my point is that I don't think you can go wrong with this doctor. He's truly at the top of his field. (Did you know that he used to be (and perhaps still is) the doctor for the NY (football) Giants?) And the hospital he operates at is the best, too.

Good luck.

Barb

Hi,
I also have been referred to Dr. Cammisa. My apt. is Nov. 17. I have been told terrific success stories by people that he has operated on. I have to pay out of pocket cause he is out my my insurance network. $500.00 to walk in the door so that will give you an idea of how I feel about him. FORGET BINGHAMTON. I also have a home in Walton, NY and would not refer you to anyone in that area or locally. Also, I dont believe that procedure is new. It might be to the locals but not in NY Hosp. for special surgery. The Hospital is listed as #2 for the best hospital. ( Columbia Presb. is #1) I wish you luck and please let us know how you do. When is your appt. with Dr. C???

Mysti,
You gave me a good laugh. First off, I am putting his charge on my credit card. I am unable to work so funds are low. I just started selling a home interior line to try and have some income. What state are you located in?

Hi Lynette,
I wish you luck with your appt. To bad you couldn't keep it for the 17th. We could have met in person. I had to wait 6 weeks for an appt. but I wouldn't let that make you worry. He could have gotten a cancellation. I also have to pay out of pocket $500.00.....ugh. it's killing me especially with the holidays coming up but at this point I really dont care about the money. I just want to know what type of surgery I need. I have gotten 2 different diagnoises so Dr. Cammisa is my 3rd opinion. I also am going for a 4th opinion This Friday with a NS. So 2 NS OPINIONS AND 2 OSS OPINIONS. Hopefully, I will be able to make a decision. Keep in touch on your progress.

HI LYNETTE,
HE IS DEFINETLY DOING ADR'S. I WILL BE MOST LIKELY BE HAVING THE LUMBAR SPINE DONE IN 2004 OR 2005. HAVE TO FIX THE CERVICAL SPINE FIRST.

GOOD LUCK

Dr. Cammisa is reputed to be one of the best!!!
A lot of injured cops in the NY Metro area have used him with success.
