For those of you with cervical fusions/wplates or disk issues, do you ever have days where you go to bed fine and you wake up and can't even hold your head up because it feels like something is pinching and the pain is unbarable? I had one of those today, if I put my neck down that relives some of the pressure, but man it hurts. I did heat, ice, zanaflex and the tens unit for 2 hours and it still hurts to look straight.
Is this normal? what can we do? my doctor recommemded something called facet shots, anyone have these? do they help?
Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi,
Yes, I have those "days", Quite often . It could be from several different problems. I really dont know your history but you could ask you dr. if your a candidate for shots. I asked and was rejected!!! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon

Yes, I have had more days like that than I can count. What has helped me recently is changing the way I sleep. You probably know enough not to sleep on your stomach, but I usually cradle a pillow between my arms when sleeping on my side and never, ever put my arm under the pillow my head is resting on. Sleeping with my head on top of my arm seemed incredibly comfortable and natural, but for some reason it compresses that whole region and I was waking up in so much pain I was afraid to get out of bed.
Since I've been more careful with my position, my pain levels have definitely dropped to a more manageable level.
