My 32 year old daughter woke up one morning in agonizing pain. She thought it was an abscessed tooth, dentist said no, but two days later pain localized and the dentist performed a root canal. Days later, and still in pain, she called her dentist who said that there was nothing more he could do and the pain she was feeling in her right jaw was not dental related. Her pain was so great that I took her to emergency and the doctor gave her two shots...a pain killer and cortisone. The doctor said that he thought the pain was coming from a nerve and that when the swelling subsided the pain would go away. It took about a week, but the pain did subside only to recur early this morning. It starts in her upper jaw and gradually moves to her lower jaw. She says she can actually touch the pain. She took 800mg of Motrin and the pain subsided somewhat and now it's more of a burn. Anyone out there have similar mandibular pain?

Have you heard of TMJ????Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction...there is a forum on this site...check there...
that may be the cause...I have fibro and tmj...and i have the same kind of pain...ask your dentist for a tmj specialist...if he knows of none...start calling orthodontists from the phone book...it may lead you to one...thats what my mom did...hope your daughter feels better!!!Good Luck!

You may also get a White Blood Count done to see if in fact your daughter has an infection. Don't always take the dentist's word for it. I am sorry she is in pain at all. I await your update! I am thinking of her now ;)
