okay chaps,
I have a question for you all.
how do you stop yourself obsessing, like f'rinstance: how do you stop yourself making too many posts ( :D ), or how do you stop yourself over-enthusing about a book, or a record (aka music CD), sex, carbohydrates, a silly joke, a film ,an actor or whatever it is you obsess about.
I am talking about obsessions that give you pleasure here, over-indulgence, rather than obsessions that irritate you like noises. Things that give you pleasure are harder to fight....
Even more importantly, how do you recognise it happening? What are the signs I should look out for...
I find out I have gone too far only after I have caused hurt, or worse still, bored someone half to death.
I really need some help here. I am trying to become an easier person to be around.

Hi Sarnie,
I know what you mean--and the best thing I find is to rely on people around me that I trust as a reality check (a good friend or my husband). If I can't do that, then I try to read peoples' cues as best I can (Are they listening to me or are they looking away? Am I interrupting too much while someone is trying to speak? Are they changing the subject?, etc).
Also, if I notice that I am rambling on about something I try to get myself to the "bottom line"--summarize what I am trying to say in a sentence or two. It's a good exercise and helps a lot at work!
