i am 32 years old i was diagnosed with genital h about 3 years ago or so, the guy i was with when i had my first ob i of course blamed for it, but with reading the post on here i am thinking i could be wrong, can h really live in your body for year without u knowing it before your first ob?? I had been with 8 sexual partners before him so i could have gotten this from any of them? The first one being when i was 13 i just didnt know it could be in yer body that long. Even though i have had this for a while i never did check into it alot like i have been the past few days. I have ob's about every month or so some not that often and always take valtrex to cure them, its usually just one sore and when i get it its always in 1 of 3 places.....i have been reading alot about garlic and stuff does that help to prevent ob's or just helps when your having one? I know that i usually get an ob after i have had alot of stress in my life. I have never had any trouble with oral h though or had them show up anywhere else, are there diff kinds of herpes besides oral and genital or different strains of it? If anyone has any advice on what is the best thing for me to do to keep from having ob's so often i would greatly appreciate it, i just told my new b/f about it which i should have done when i met him before i had sex with him, i feel awful about it but as u know its a hard thing to talk about with someone so he is going to the dr this week to have a blood test done to see if i passed it on to him, i never had sex with him when i had an ob i just hope he is ok....with reading your post in here i realize now that i have to start being honest with people before i have sex with them, this is a horrible thing to have to live with and i dont want to see anyone have to go thru what i have went thru, not only with the ob's but the guilt of knowing u have something for the rest of your life inside your body never knowing when its gonna surface...so any help with some advice on the subject more would be appreciated...thanks:)

one more thing, how risky is it with me having h and him doing oral sex on me, is there a big change that we will both get h-1???

There is a chance, of course; there's always a chance. This is something you and your partner must discuss. Most partners of people who have herpes have accepted this risk. For advice on how to protect your partner, and for stories of couples who have it and live well despite it, read the recent "Happy Couples" thread. You might also point out to a partner that many people have it and don't know it--there is no protection from people like that. If he were having sex with others, he could easily pick herpes (or something worse) up from one of them. At least you know, and so you can take steps to protect him.

The virus is different for everyone, so for some people taking garlic orally (fresh and/or pills) seems to help them avoid ob's; others use the garlic oil to deal with an existing ob. If you read around on this board, you will find lots of suggestions. You will also find at least one person saying that the suggestion does not work for him or her. It's just different for different people.

Remember that this is just a virus in your body; it is not you and doesn't say anything bad about you. You can still get on with you life and do the things you love to do. When you have an ob, deal with it the best you can, use things like garlic oil to make it more bearable and to help it heal faster, and try not to worry about it.

Good luck! Read a lot on this board and you will learn what you need to know! Talk to you later.

Hey topaz, I just answered another of your posts! I'm not sure which post (9-13) you mean. The garlic oil post I will bump up for you, so you can just look here on page one for it. Happy Couples is also here, bumped up recently by diligent movingrightalong. If you want to find out about a certain subject (like, other posts about garlic, for example), you can do a search of this board by going to the very top of any thread, above the ads, where there are several buttons. One says "search." On the search page, you can enter any term, such as "garlic," and it will list all the times this occurs and the titles of the threads. Then you can just click on the name of a thread to read it.

I did a whole lot of reading when I first joined the boards and learned a lot. Good luck!
