Hi all,

I've always had cracking sounds in my knees when I bent down. However, in this past week I've had more cracking sounds and a feeling of looseness in my knees. Then I started experiencing more discomfort. I was really feeling it after standing up for 4 hours in my biochem lab. My knees were so painful I was surprised I could walk home. In any case, I was just wondering if this is indicative of knee arthritis. I've already been diagnosed with TMJ (my joints show wear, probably due to osteoarthritis as I have bilateral disk displacement).

I doubt my knee is hurting from strenuous activity as I only run 3 miles a week on the weekends.

Please post if you have any comments or suggestions. I appreciate any feedback.

Oh yeah...another tidbit that might be helpful...I'm definitely not overweight so this can't be a factor (I'm 5'8 and 135 lbs).

Hi there -

My doc says popping doesn't always mean arthritis, although mine pop alot. However, your pain sounds like it could be arthritis. The loose knees is more indicitive of a ligament or cartilage problem and should be checked out. Running is the worst thing for joints, it's too much pounding which causes all kinds of problems. You should pick up a different exercise that is less strenuous on the knees.

This may seem weird but if you are taking a statin drug - consider that it might have some effect on your knees, It did me. I still have the cracking noises and had very painful sore knees from statins. greatly improved once stopped but slow to come back fully.
