Does anyone ever experience bloating, aching in lower abdomen, aching back, and feelings of trapped gas in the colon during the middle of your menstrual cycle? I do and I have started writing it down on a calendar. I think this occurs when I ovulate. It is really uncomfortable for about 3 days. What makes it worse is that I crave things then I know I shouldn't eat. Like chocolate and really starchy comfort foods. I think it makes my symptoms worse, but I still crave them. I would like to hear from other posters if this is pretty normal.. Thanks.

It sounds like ovulation.

I get the same way. It feels like my uterus is ready to fall out. It can be very painfull. I usually take advil and it seems to help.

Best wishes

Hi Howitt44-
Are these symptoms new for you or have you always experienced them mid-cycle?

Yup - me too. Never experienced any cramps pre-menstruation, like other women. Always during - with lots of trapped gas. However, I don't ovulate as I'm on the bc pill. So not sure where it comes from. I just usually take aspirin if it gets really bad (though that only helps with the cramps and not the gas).

I never really had this mid cycle problem until I started perimenipause. I had the usual 1st and 2nd day cramps when I was younger. But at 38 or so, I started having more severe pms than before. I'm almost 47 now and have started using a natural hormone cream that balances my estrogen and progesterone. I don't have the heavy peroids anymore and the breast soreness before my period, or the crankinesss. I haven't really mentioned this to my doctor because it didn't seem that significant. I usually don't take anything for it.

Howitt- If you are in perimenopause I would make an appt. to have a thorough pelvic exam. Bloating, gas, vague abdominal discomfort mid-cycle during perimenopause and menopause can mean an ovarian cyst or tumor. I remember Gilda Radner complained for months about similar symptoms.
Better to have an exam just to make sure everything is A-OK.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I have had this for about 3 years and I have pap and pelvic exams faithfully every year. I did have a polyp removed last year and it came back ok. Just thought I 'd see if other women have this problem, tooo.

Yes...I get the same thing. I started getting it a few years after I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was getting it almost every month until I started going through perimenopause in the last few years. Now I don't get it every month but still pretty frequently. I often get pain and lately I've started to experience some minor bleeding. Just enoug to turn the mucous a slight pinky colour. Or there will be strings of blood, again...very minor amounts. I also get the feeling of my bottom dropping out. I sure hope this perimenopause stuff gets over with soon.

I have been having this lately too. I'm not sure it's actually mid cycle but it can be painful. I had cramps the week after my period and that bloated gassy feeling too. I too felt like my uterus or pelic floor was about to drop out!
I've had this feeling before but it was a few years back and only lasted a few cycles.

I have no idea what it could be - anyone know anymore, please respond.

PS, I had an ectopic pregnancy earlier this year too, may have something to do with it?
