View Full Version : sex during an ob...eek

Ok, I have HSV1 genitally and I haven't had an OB in over a year. Well, I got pretty used to that and me and my boyfriend have been having a wonderful sex life. Well the day after we last had sex, I noticed some bumps down there. At first I was hoping they would just be ingrown hairs, but i"m not sure if they are or not. I also got what I'm pretty sure is a coldsore on my lip. I never really get those. And also I've got a couple little bumps on my leg. I got those with my initial OB like 3 years ago. So I'm pretty sure this is an OB. I have been extremely lucky as far as OB's are concerned, as well as shedding, as I have not passed this on to any of my past boyfriends. (They all did know about it). Well, I'm wondering if when you have sex during an OB, or anytime within a while of it, if there's a 100% chacne that you're partner WILL definitely get the virus. And also, if they have HSV1 antibodies in their system from getting coldsores as a child, will that lower their risk of being able to contract the virus? Any answers/advice would be higly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the board! I don't believe the chance is 100%, but it's pretty close. Some people do say that having the antibodies affords some protection, but I wouldn't count on that either. It's better just to avoid sex during ob's, or anytime you have any type of suspicious symptoms. My soulmate (who has never had any type of herpes) also washes up with soap and water (for the obligatory 20 seconds) after we have sex.
