My ex boyfriend just informed me that he has been diagnosed with Genital Warts, we have been seperated for 3 months, he hasnt been with anyone since we broke up, and we've been together for almost 3 1/2 years.......

I did a lot of reading on HPV and it says it can stay dormant for 3 months to a year..... why now is he breaking out?? I've made an apppointment with my Dr for tomorrow (Monday) to be tested for all STD's...

So, I guess my question is what are my chances of having this? Protected sex doesnt even PROTECT you from this.... is it true that it isnt curable? I have a lot of question for my Dr. Anoth thing is last year I had a pap come back irregular (Dysplacia - abnormal cell growth) My Insurance lapsed so I wasnt able to go back and see what was wrong... Could that be what happened, HPV? Will this affect me from having kids?

Soo many question.. any info will help me at this point.

E

HPV can lie dormant in one's system for years without EVER rearing it's ugly head. There are about 50-100 different strains of HPV, some cause you to have actual warts, the others cause you to have cervical cell changes, that if left untreated, will progress to cancer!

No, condoms do not "protect" against this disease and no it is not curable. If you've had an abnormal pap, chances are, you have been exposed. I'm not sure how it will affect child bearing, I'm looking into that one, myself. I would get another pap and get yourself checked out. I believe the HPV Digene test will detect which strains you've been exposed to. Go to webmd and research HPV, you'll find all the answers you need. GOOD LUCK!

ericam,

please come to this board, taking peoples advice as only their experience. You could or could not have genital warts. You should go to doctor to find out. No one on these boards can tell you what you have. I was very scared this weekend cause I asked a similiar questions and somone told me that I had genital herpes. The doctor this weekend said I didn't. You will work yourself into a frenzy if you listen to these boards and doctors.

I am not saying that anyone is right or wrong, but there are a number of ailments that you could have. I believe my mother had pollips or abnormal cell growths and it was basically nothing. However, they did remove and did a biopsy. Get checked, it's the only way to ease your mind.

There are a number of great sites to go to and learn more about warts. Check them out after your diagnosed.

You can go to the cervical cancer board and you'll be able to learn much more over there.
