I just recently went to the dr, and described to him what sounded like ibs. He wrote me a prescription and sent me on my way. Now my question is this, is this a real physical problem, or is it a physical manifestation of a mental problem? In my case whenever i am put in a situation that is foreign to me, my stomach acts up and then i can't function. and this is really stressful because it feels like i can't do anything out of the ordinary without having to go to the bathroom. I don't know how to change this sort of response to my enviornment, which really sucks because i would like to go abroad for a few months, but i feel like i will just end up sitting in a bathroom the entire time as opposed to living. Any insight would help..

IBS is a real physical problem which can be aggravated by stress, anxiety and even depression. Physically, it is a problem with colon motility. I, like you, find situations that make me feel anxious or stressed worsen my symptoms considerably. Take care, and try to relax. :)

I had the same issues and was put on Librax a nerve pill for the stomach. It has changed my life. Before I could be fine then if I got on a plane or anywhere I knew I wouldn't have complete access to a restroom It would flare up.

If this isnt what they gave you I feel it would be worth trying.
Good Luck
