I am trying to make this as short as possible. My daughter had 2 bumps inside the genital area at 7:00 am and a temp. At 11:00 she had four bumps, at 12:00 in the ER she had 8 bump/sores. The ER doctor said they were herpes. By 1:00 pm she had pus and blood oozing out of her vagina and all they did in the ER was call protective service, test for genital herpes, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and sent her home. They did give her antiviral prescription and two Tylenol. By 1:00 AM her vagina was inflamed and pus was still pouring out. No one would do anything to help her they said I had to wait until the test result came back. So I took her to another doctor who I paid for myself (i have a HMO) and he gave her a shot of antibiotics and a prescription for antibiotics. The swelling started to go away but she was still in severe pain. On day three we went to a Nurse practicenor and she said she never seen anything like it before and gave us a prescription of codeine. I try calling the ER to get the result after three days and was told it wasn't ready. We had to wait the weekend and by Monday afternoon we got them to fax the result to her doctor. The test was canceled. I rush her over to another ER and had the same results they tested her and we waited five days and on Friday afternoon, after begging the nurse to call the lab for results, we found out the test was canceled. First test was canceled reason 1. Didn’t get enough to test with, 2. Doctor used wrong vessel. Second test- 1. Doctor OBYN didn't do it correctly and resubmit test and now will take 14 days to receive result back.
On that Friday, took her to a third OBYN, he said it herpes, text book case and tested her for herpes and will not do anything else until result as back this Tuesday.
On the first day she had a temp in the ER that went up to 104. The second day before the antibiotics she throw up 11 times every 10 min until she got medicine to help her stop. The sores are all contained to the inside walls of her genital area. They are very painful to the tough, the are irregular sizes, when pus falls out, the sores look like dark red shallow lakes, and it progressed quickly and stop and now it's taking a long time regressing. Nothing has crusted over, no bumps anywhere else. She did have ring worm, yeast infection, eczema, headaches, and frequent cold before this happen. My daughter had never been sexually active. Does anyone know anything else this can be? Can anyone help direct me in the right direction? Does this sound right? Please help end my family’s nightmare.

I am so sorry for your family, and especially for your daughter. I guess this could be herpes, but it sounds so extreme, and it happened so fast! I would not rule out a bacterial infection, since the antibiotics seemed to work somewhat (and herpes is a virus; antibiotics only work on bacterial infections.) I have never heard of pus and blood streaming from herpes sores.

Perhaps someone with a more severe reaction will be able to give you some better info. I do know that I would keep looking for a competent dr. I've had good luck asking friends and listening closely to their replies. One avenue you may not have thought of is midwives. Certified nurse-midwives usually do gynecological work, too, and usuallythey don't charge as much as drs. They also tend to be very sympathetic and knowledgable. Good luck.

Who are these people who mess up a simple culture?

Thanks for your reply, that made me feel better. I was hoping i could tell you today the test was negative, but once again it's been 6 days and now, the doctor said if the test was positive they would tell me. If the test is negative they will let it grow for a few more days. BULL, I call the lab and they said the herpes cluture test would take three days "PERIOD".
Not sure what to do next...maybe you'll read about this in the press!

When I was tested the doctor did it right there in the office and I found out right then. I don't know why it is taking so long.

I do not have it that severe.
If your daughter is not sexually active and it is herpes, HOW DID SHE GET HERPES???? If it is a sexually transmitted disease, I would definitely be asking a lot of questions to figure out how she got this. I hope it is not herpes because it is an awful, awful disease to live with.

Good questions, but i have to take one thing at a time and it the test first. The doctor from the second test finally called after 10 days and said the test is still not complete. She said she never heard of a test taking so long. Plus the third test is still pending, diffent doctor different lab and it's still pending after six days. Why is it taking so long?

If your daughter is not sexually active and it is herpes, HOW DID SHE GET HERPES????

If a person has HSV-1, (or oral herpes which manifest as cold sores) it is possible to autoinnoculate oneself. (Transmit to the genital region.) Does your daughter have a history of cold sores, Surfgirl?

I am so sorry you and your daughter is going through this horrific experience. I'm really concerned for your daughter; the severity of her symptoms is unsettling. Please keep us updated.

That's really interesting. We got the test back for the third culture test. I found out the test took so long because the third doctor never returned a call to the lab until I call for the results. 48 hours later, the test was negative. The second test result are still pending, this since the 11/10.

This has by far been the worse time in my life. I really had a wakeup call on how sick our society has become. The doctor's were cold and uncaring towards my daughter. If she did have herpes, does that mean she should be treated like a second class citzens? The first doctor told a 11 year old, she has the gift that keeps on giving. She was denied her right to treatment, pain management and her privacy. I will complain and get an apology, but just think, if she had herpes, everything they did would be considered acceptable.

I feel I got glimpse into your world, is it really this bad or did I just get three really stupid doctors? Btw…I got went Riverside Community Hospital, Kaiser, and Riverside Medical Clinic.
