Hi,
I am now 6 1/2 weeks post op. I finally got my walking cast.
Can anyone tell me if at this point were they still elevating? I'm wondering if I still need to do this at work or not.
Also how long will I be doing toe exercises?
Thanks!

See my post in the 'exercise' thread on this board. Also, you will swell by the end of the day even after 6 weeks so try preventative measures and rest it up as much as you can.
When I went back to work after 7 weeks I still was told to elevate my feet at hip level. My computer had to be switched around to accomodate this but it was well worth it. Keeping the swelling down will allow your foot to heal faster. I keep my feet up at work still and it's been 6 months! Just feels good!

ok I will put up as much as I can.
as far as toe exercises. I'm just wondering if people do this even after they are completely healed and walking? do they go on for months and months or are they done once they are allowed back in shoes and walking?

You'll probably find that you will do the exercises and massage less and less, but there will be days that your feet will be sore and you'll do them! Sometimes the amount of walking or I've picked the wrong shoe (still trying out my old shoes some of them just aren't supportive enough) so I'll need to pamper my feet at night. Haven't had to do any icing though.

It's been 6 months since my surgery. Because of the nerve tumor removal in the same foot as the bunion was removed, I have numbness in my big and second toe. The numbness will never go away completely but feeling will come back slowly over time. Some days I still massage and I try to keep using Mederma. The scar is still red though I don't think I have a lot of scar tissue buildup due to the massaging done in the beginning (well 6 weeks postop started massaging). The numbness doesn't bother me when I have shoes on and that is most of the time because of the heel spur.
