Im hoping somebody can help me with this question. My son keeps getting shiners under his eyes followed by slight nose congestion and nighttime coughing. Could these be seasonal allergies? He complains that his stomach hurts too. I took him to a Pediatric Gastro, and they said blood work looks good, he didnt have any pain when they pushed on his stomach, they want a stool sample to check for bacteria. They said that allergies can cause severe sinus pressure which is what he has and then the drip can upset the tummy. He has had this since on and off more on, Dec. If I give him a decongetent it does get better. I just want to know if I should put him on the Zrytec until Spring and see how he is (maybe it is Seasonal Allergies) or just give him the decongestent on and off till the symptoms are gone. I know your not dr's but any experience or advice I would appreciate. It doesnet seem any food aggrevates it, but Im going to keep a journal of what he eats and when he complains of symptoms.

It could be seasonal, but it could also be foods. Although at age 7 you would likely know about most food allergies, it is not something to discount. Rather than just putting him on Zyrtec on a guess, I would suggest you request allergy testing. That would give you solid and specific information and you would be able to base your decision on that.

I would look into food allergies either MSG or peanut allergy or milk as they are the most common.

This sounds like our son. He has a combination of food and inhalant allergies. If you suspect food allergies you can try an all rice died. We did and were able clear him up and then by introducing foods slowly we were able to narrow down the allergies to dairy, wheat, peanuts, red dye, blue dye,......

It's tough to feed him. We've had to change our diets as well to cut down on the kitchen work but it not bad. We eat millet, quinoa, rice, corn, buckwheat, oatmeal and most meats and vegetables. The biggest change was cutting our processed foods. This also cut down on food additives and chemicals. Read the labels and you'll be surprised at how much 'stuff' is in products - a lot of it is wheat based.
