I'm new here, so please bear with me. I wasn't sure which forum to post on, so I just pick one.
I have been diagnosed (over serveral years time) with all of the following:
hypothyroidism
Mitral Valve Prolapse with dysautonomia
Fibromyalgia
Slight Hyatial Hernia
Slight G.E.R.D.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Narcolepsy
I am mid-40's and female. I have been trying to work (a desk job), but back in January I had my Gall Bladder removed and have since been diagnosed with the last 4 problems. Some of these I probably have had for a while, but just finally found out what was wrong.
Sorry this is so long, but it's a long story. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has this same set of problems? And if anyone thinks I might could draw diablity? I would rather work if I can.
I am currently working and have been at the same place for 2 years, but it looks like it is going to close. I don't know whether to look for another job or see about disablity.
Wondering what to do..

I feel ya. I have narcolepsy, hypothyroid and severe depression. The chronic fatigue symptoms may be related to the narco, and the irratable bowel to your gallbladder being removed. I had mine out almost 2 yrs ago and sometimes after eating I get gas pains that floor me and have to hit the bathroom!!! lol The hernia and GERD are probably related. Are you by chance overweight? I am, and since I gained weight I've had probs with heartburn. Sleep apnea also gets worse with weight gain. Are you being treated for narco? and if so with what?

Yes, I am overweight. I tried to go on the Adkins diet and it seemed to work for a little while, and then I started having all kinds of problems. It's been a tough year! EVery time I think I'm about to get better from one ailment, I seem to be attacked by another!
Anyway, yes, I take Provigil, 200 mg for Nacolepsy. I've been taking it for about 1 month. It seems to help, but it's not quite enough or something. I was s'pose to see my sleep doc. today but he had an emergency and now by appointment has been post poned 'til January. I know one thing, though, you better have good insurance that pays for your meds or it will eat a whole in your pocket! I just got refilled today, $240.00 for 40 tabs!!!
Hope this helps. Thanks.

 Hi Angel, yes I'm still around. I had a little trouble getting logged in. Anyway, my sleep doc said to increase my dose of Provigil by 100mg and to take it in the afternoon. I'm sure how this is going to help me in the mornings, tho. My husband has to drive me to work because I'm soo sleepy in early am. We have to leave home by 6:15 a.m. to get to work at 7. It's a good thing our work is close together. Anyhow, last week, right after seeing my sleep doc. I developed inner ear problems! So, now I take Provigil to stay awake and Antivert to help with the dizziness - which makes me sleepy! :) go figure. The inner ear thing is slowly getting better - I think. Still having a tough time getting my strength back from all I've been through in the last year. Maybe someday, it'll get better!
Thanks for listening.

Your doc is up in the night!! You can increase Provigil upto 200mg morning and night or 400mg morning only and add quick acting stimulants to counteract individual attacks!!! What a toad! They should be forced to live in these brains that don't work, have someone hand them a little pill and say if you don't feel better after taking this, keep doing it and quit complaining.
I don't know how you work. I used to but it got so bad that I can't keep with any type of schedule, nor would an employer want an employee who turns into Forrest Gump without notice!! Actually, Forrest Gump's IQ is probably about 50pts higher than mine is during attacks. The most prevalent words coming out of my mouth are: I'm not sure what I just said, huh?, are you sure I just said that???
I think they'd look at me funny when they realized that I misspelled my name on the application!! Hired!! You work at McDonalds...would you like fries with that?? Except I probably would get canned for messing up orders!! LOL

Angel77,
It's getting harder and harder to try and work. Some days, or parts of days, I feel half human. But most days I still feel like I'm in a fog! I can't seem to rememer much anymore. I have notes everywhere, if it's not written down, then I probably can't tell you (small details, and I used to be a detail person). The plant where I work (in the office) looks like it's going to close at any time. I've been trying to figure out what to do then. I figure I will have a hard time getting hired anywhere else, with my age and all my ailments, including narcolepy. Thanks for listening.

Cricket, You're not required to disclose your disability when applying for new jobs. If they hire you based on your qualifications, then you are what they are looking for. When you are hired, then you may discuss what accommidations you'll need if any. You may have to disclose it to the lab if you're sent for a pre-employment drug screen, if you're on any of the stimulants.
I know about the work problems. I used to work full time and volunteer part time, then went to full time dog/wolf rescue to full time couch warmer. These type of boards are the only reason I have stayed somewhat sane!
Keep checking in...love to hear how you're doing. Good luck.

I am not familiar with all of your problems, but sleep disorders are often caused by hypothyroidism~ it is very common for women to be tested for hypothyroidism because of a sleep related complaint. I say this b/c your sleep disorder may be regulated if you are recieving the proper treatment for your thyroid- you might want to look into it.

Yup, I too have hypothyroid, but mine's a result of Grave's disease and having the radiation, which sent it the other way. It can be an aggrivating factor because the symptoms overlap and also play on each other to make sypmtoms worse. Even if your blood is in the normal range, it can still be off enough to cause probs.

Yes, I have hypothyroidism. I have had this since I was 12, so I'm pretty familiar with that and how it overlaps other things. I usually have a hard time trying to figure out what is not right when I feel bad because it seems like all my symptoms run together.
