My 5 year old daughter has very dark rings under her eyes and someone told me that this may indicate an allergy. Does anyone have experience with this? She is always tired (even though she sleep 11 hours a night) and her behaviour sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.
I have not had her allergy tested yet, but I hope to in the next few weeks. She suffered from severe glue ear when she was a baby/toddler and had to have grommets inserted into her ears on two occassions after an ear drum exploded. She has also had a lot of cold and ear infections in the past.
If this is not an allergy could it be related to a food intolerance???
I am concerned as she is very small for her age (bottom 3 percentile range for both both weight and height), she is a very picky and fussy eater and refuses to eat good food like fish, eggs and yoghurt.
Can anyone help??
Thanks a lot.

I don't know whether you have considered taking your daughter to have acupuncture treatment or Chinese herbal medicine treatment? If not, then perhaps you should. It is just that dark circles under the eyes are all around the Bladder Meridian and and the fact that she is tired all the time as well, could indicate that she has a Deficiency of Kidney Energy. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very good for all these sorts of problems.
Go ahead and get her allergy tested by all means, but if you don't like the idea of acupuncture or Chinese herbs, then homeopathy is a great alternative that works extremely well for kids and without any side effects, as other more conventional treatments have. Homeopathy could get rid of the tendency of the need for grommets and prevent further problems occuring again in later life.
Kids always respond well to homeopathy, sometimes better than adults, as they have a good vitality and have not had the previous suppression that we have had. Also, did any of these problems occur after any type of vaccination? If so, this could be a cause.
Anyway, good luck and if the allergy tests come out positive for anything, then homeopathy can help to treat it and can get rid of the tendency towards the allergies in the first place.

Yes, the glue ear problems started around when she was 10 months old. She would have had vaccinations at 2 months, 4 months and 6 months prior to this. I have read a bit about the effect of vaccinations but had not considered it until now.
I have also read that allergies cab manifest themselves in difficult behaviour, so I do not know what to think. I wil take her to a doctor first to rule out anything serious but I will definately consider homeopathy etc.. Thanks for your reply.

If you have an ND in your area, take her there rather than to an MD. Naturopathic Doctors are primary care physicians in most States, but not all and have all the training that MD's though, although they also have that extra training in the alternatives such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and homeopathy. Some are also dual trained as chiropractors too.
That is your other alternative. They will be able to check her over for serious things, but also give her natural treatments at the same time too.
Good luck

Do not want to scare you, but, dark circles under eyes of a child could be an indication of cancer. Please, have her checked out to be sure something worse than allergy is the problem.

Ok, now I am really worried. What sort of cancer could we be talking about here?? Can you please provide some more information about this. Thanks

Please try not to worry too much. As far as I can see, most of these problems can be related to the glue ear. With glue ear, you can get repeated infections, that if you go and see a doctor, you will be given repeated courses of antibiotics. Unfortunately, the antibiotics can cause problems such as tiredness and a lowered immunity in themselves, so you have a vicsious circles going on. It is also likely to be vaccine related, although no MD would ever say this as they are earning the money for vaccinating in the first place, but still keep this in mind. The fact that the glue ear problems started after all this has to be a fact worth keeping in mind.
If you are worried, then take her to the doc again, but this does not sound like cancer to me. Low energy and some behaviour problems can be related to vaccination and glue ear too.

Sarah,
Thank you so much for your reassurance. I am sure that you are right. I will be taking her to see the doctor tommorrow. I know someone else that took their child to see him and he noticed the dark circles under this child's eyes and referred him to a specialist (not sure what sort) just to be sure nothing sinister was going on, so I am confident he will be the right person to see as a starting point anyway.
I will let you know what he say...thanks again
