I was just given a bone density test and could see the images on a computer as the exrays were taken. There was huge bright white spots all over my bones. They bone itself showed as a grayish color. The spots were all up and down my spine and on my hips. Does anyone know what that is? I now have to wait for several weeks to get in to see the Dr. We have lots of cancer in my family and this is a little scary.

Sometimes heat can show up as intensity uptake. It could also mean that those areas show demineralization(thinning). Don't worry too much as it may be nothing at all. When I had mine done the areas of white were the thinning bone area, I think because there is significant thinning it shows up lighter than the bone itself. I have osteoporosis in the spine, neck and hips and you could see the lighter areas of bone in the xray.

What do you take for the osteoporosis and does it work? Thanks

I take oscal supplements, also actenol. I was diagnosed several year ago and I took the drugs then stopped to try and do it naturally, believe it or not when I went natural I gained 1% in the lumbar but lost another 20% in the hip(the one place you don't want to lose bone at)so I went back on the actenol reluctantly. I think going naturally helped the lumbar but not the rest of the areas of bone loss. I hate to take any drug but I also don't want to be in a wheelchair. so does it work? My last bone density showed more bone loss and yet some people gain, but I don't think the gain is significant in most. Mostly I think most things work to some degree.
