Has anyone had an apicectomy? I just had it yesterday and I am wondering how others tolerated the procedure. The Edondontist cut the gum, cleaned out the abscess and then worked on 2 previous root canals.

Had some swelling and some pain but not unbearable. But I haven't had the results hoped for. Now I'm having a knot that comes up on my gums and some tenderness and swelling so now I'm trying to decide whether to have an implant or a bridge. Hope you have better luck. indy gal 11-23-2003, 07:57 PM I had an apico done back in July. I guess overall things went well, but the healing was slow going. I didn't have any pain/discomfort during the procedure, and minimal discomfort afterwards. I was swollen for a week, talking funning and eating with caution. I ended up having to have the root canal retreated 2 months after the apico, however, because I was still having pain with hot foods/drinks. In the beginning they gave me the choice between a retreatment or an apico because of the abscess I had, and I ended up having to have both done. tryingtofeelgood 11-23-2003, 11:01 PM I had an apico done back in July. I do hope well ;) indy gal 11-26-2003, 12:25 PM How are both of you feeling now? I do hope well ;) I am feeling much better now, although I don't think it will every be 100% ok. The tooth/gum area feels funny, especially after eating if I can't brush my teeth for a long time. But after what the tooth has been through (rootcanal, apicoectomy, then a retreatment of the rootcanal), I don't imagine it is supposed to feel "good as new". As long as I am not in pain, I can handle "weird feelings". Heck, after having a root abscess for a month (which hurt like crazy) I can tolerate just about anything!
