For the last 3 months (since December), I have been having weird shooting pains in my eyes, mainly the left one. When the pain subsides, sometimes the eye aches or feels numb. This sensation also spreads to the area from my eyebrow to my upper cheeks. My eyes are also red, puffy and glassy-looking. I am feeling unbelievably frustrated trying to figure out what could be causing this! My regular doctor is at a loss, he's done blood work, sinus X-rays, and bacteria swabs. The eye doctor I saw also found nothing wrong. I have an appointment to see a neurologist next week. Could this be an allergic reaction to something in my environment? Dogs? Chalk dust (I teach)? Or some kind of toxin? I have no headaches or other symptoms. I also stopped wearing any eye makeup or using face creams. Any ideas please??

Hi,
It sounds like allergies, but coould also be migraines.
You're doing the right thing seeing a neurologist, after many episodes like yours, I finally saw the right doctor.
Good luck.

Hello, I know how frustrating it is to have these
symptoms and to get no answers from your doctors. I
struggled with the same symptoms about a year ago. It
started with the shooting pains in my eyes as well. Then progressed into a pulling or numb feeling in mostly my left eye and on into a feeling of numbless or
tingling above and around my eyebrow. I was really
worried and finally broke down and went to an allergist
after many many trips to my eye doctor who could find
no explanation. I tested positive on most of my
allergy tests and have since stated on allergy shots.
On a positve note, the stabbing pains have not returned
and I only experience numbness once in a while when my
allergies are at their worst. I hope this helps. Hang
in there and let us know what you find out and how your
are doing.
