My 5 week old baby does #2 just about every time he eats. (AND I MEAN JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME TOO) within the 1st two minutes of eating every time. I don't mean to sound gross but I can hear him going, he poots really loud and then you can hear very loud squirts and then ploosh. Is this normal for a baby to be going that often ? and to sound like that? Just the other day we were in public and he pooted really loud and did that. A lady turned around and looked , I think she thought it was my husband . (he is so loud , you wouldn't think a little baby could make all that noise) Anyway I was just wondering if this was normal. I sometimes think he may have a sensitive tummy but then again I just don't know because he doesn't fuss when he eats. or maybe he eats to much? It can't be the formula I give him because he does this when breastfeeding too. and it can't be because I do a combo of both breast and formula because he did this when I just strictly breastfed. He always does this within the first 2 minutes of eating, also is it normal for him to go that fast?

Maybe he is lactose intollerant (spell) I know some people who do this every time they have dairy. I would try soy milk (formula) for one week and see if that helps. Let us know...

My daughter did poop every time she ate for the first three months. I gave her breast milk for the first six weeks and then formula it went away after she began taking in rice cereal at three months. It was very gross. The doc said it was fine. PS your not giving him iron enriched formula and iron drops are you? That may also cause a diarea that is not good at all. HeatherW.

Well it seem perfectly normal to me. Especially if you are breast feeding. Breast milk digests so easily. Just like us eating stimulates the digestive system and then poop there it is!:D Sorry couldn't resist! My son not only had the very loud poops he was stinky too. Being breast fed I guess that the foods I ate would so that to him. I would be feeding him and sometimes couldn't stand it. I knew that if any one came near us they would never believe it to be him!
Really though it is normal to have explosive bowel movements when they are so little. Just wait till you get to the part when you are at a resuraunt and he turns five shades of red and starts grunting loud enough for half the room to hear. Never failed for us! :)
Have fun!

it is amazing how loud they can be! but i do believe it is normal. you should get the book "what to expect the first year" it is like my bible. it answers all of these kinds of questions. i highly recomend it.

yea. my baby did exactly the same thing. and I was breastfeeding about 70-80% of the time and feeding Emfamil formula the rest of the time. For the first 3 month, and he went number 2 like at least 2-3 times a day. So, i don't see a problem with that.
However, when i quit breastfeeding and beginning tyo give him pure formula he had constipation problems ~

I think the majority of posters here agree, it's pretty normal. My youngest (whose 3 now) did the same thing. He was nursed until he was 16 months and only would take a bottle of forumla if i was no where to be found. He would not drink "mommy" milk from a bottle (and yes, that's what he called it). When I finally weaned him, (as he was a comfort nurser) and put him on regular milk, along with the "older baby" formula (are we allowed to name those?) he was very constipated. Imagine going as often as that, and then not being able to go at all. It was a rough couple of weeks until we worked everything out. Good luck.
