squeeky 04-05-2003, 04:33 PM Does going on the elimination diet before testing has influence on food allergie testing? purple2067 04-06-2003, 01:12 PM I don't think so.... if you are allergic to something, it is going to show up on food allergy tests if you have eaten that food every day of your life, or if you have never eaten that food at all. The allergy doesn't disappear just because you haven't eaten the food for a few days. It will still show up. There are only two things that I know of that can influence allergy tests. One is if you eat anything while the test is going on (like in the 15 or 10 minutes that you have to wait after being injected if you are doing under the skin tests), then you won't know if the reaction that you have to the test has been influenced by the food that you just ate. That's why they tell you that you can't eat/drink during the tests. The other thing is that you absolutely cannot take any sort of anti-histamines or other allergy pills for at least a few days before the test. I think most drs will tell you that it is best to stop taking them two days before. I personally, usually stop them a week before. The reason for that is it takes a while for them to get out of your system, and that can definitely affect the outcome of the tests. I hope this has answered your question.
