I have had several MRI's. I hope you are not closterphobic. If you are you may need to be sedated ahead of time which means getting a dr to order it etc. It is a big tube shapped machine that they slide you head first into on your back. It makes a knocking loud humming sound comming from the area of your head. They will give you headphones and music to listen to usually. The contrast is given by an iv. The whole procedure is relatively painless and takes about 30 min. to do. The time can vary depending on how many pictures need to be taken. You have to lie perfectly still the whole time.

i've had seven. it's not too bad, as long as you don't mind being in the tube. the thing i hate the most about it is wearing the stupid hospital gowns. last time i was in (a month ago), they put a cage like thing over my head to keep my head still. i felt like hannibal lecter... *laff* if you have a migraine that day, take painkillers, cuz it gets loud. good luck.
