Fortunately I just have the cold sore type herpes but it is really gross. I have had a cold sore for five weeks. It’s right at the corner of my lips so it’ s constantly breaking when I talk or eat. This is why it won’t heal. I also get them in my nostrils and on the outside of my nostrils.

When my allergies are REALLY bothering me, these cold sores appear. So, I’m eliminating dairy and tomatoes from my diet (big allergens) to build my system up.

I’ve heard that 50 percent of all adults carry the herpes 1 virus, even though many don’t show symptoms. I don’t know how I got it originally (it wasn’t sexual because I had them when I was a virgin). I believe I spread them from my own touch!

Very occasionally I get a slight, tiny rash on my penis. I believe I spread it from touching a cold sore and then going to urinate.

I believe that a healthy diet and building the immunity system is probably what I need to do.

Both my husband and son suffer from the same thing. My husband like you gets them on the outside of his mouth/face area, my son gets them in his mouth.
They both started taking Lysine 500 mg to prevent them and 1000 twice a day when they feel one starting. It has helped a lot!!
My husband rarely gets one, and my son doesn't get them nearly as often as he did before. And when he does they do not get as big or last as long.

As far as you spreading them, you will. You need to wash your hands constantly!

There are certain foods I heard that trigger an outbreak. Pork is one.

Thank you very much for your help. I really can't afford to be getting these damn things because I'm an actor. I was just in an off-off broadway play and I had to use makeup for the damn thing. I am so fed up. You're right we need to wash hands constantly. I'll go to the doctor to get some Lysine. Thanks!

James, you don't need to go to the doctors to get Lysine. We get it at the drug store and Sams club.
Also you might want to try vitamin E jell caps. Pop them open and put them on the sores. It will help them heal faster and not scar or look red for as long.

This may sound strange but it really works. Put salt on your cold sores. My daughter first told me about it - I was very skeptical. The first time I tried it I put some salt on an emerging cold sore on the corner of my mouth and kept it there for about 20 minutes. My cold sore still formed and made a scab and I thought - well - so much for the salt. But to my surprise, the healing time was cut in half. The next time I was getting a cold sore, I applied the salt 3 times during the day for 20 minutes each time and it completed eliminated it. Now whenever I start to get a cold sore in the corner of my mouth - I apply salt - the stupid virus apparently hates a salty environment. It works fantastic - have had no further problems with cold sores because I can always stop them now when they start forming.

Thanks for your help! I'll pick up Lysine and Vitamin E at the drugstore, and the salt remedy sounds legitimate because saltwater always heals cuts when we swim in the ocean.

Also, when I get allergy sinus problems (this is going to sound kind of gross but it works wonders): I mix warm salt water in a glass, pour some in the cup of my hand and then snort it in each nostril. Yes, I choke and cough a bit. Yes, it's uncomfortable for a bit. And yes, it's messy. But it takes a sore throat away and it clears my head. Try it next time you get a cold. Salt water never hurt anyone.

Thanks again for all of your helpful responses.

Hey James, I actually have a nasal douche for that exact purpose! I'm not sure where I got it, but it makes it sure makes it easy to get that salt water up there and it definitley helps with sinus congestion!

yeah you can get saline nasal spray at any drug store. Great for dry sinuses and sore throats in the winter.

I also heard that an Ice Cube can work wonders. Much like the salt idea, the virus doesn't like cold environments. They like to just hang out where its nice and warm, so if we upset their environment they hate that! I heard that if you apply an ice cube to the spot where you think a cold sore or outbreak is going to pop up and hold it there for 2-3 minutes and then repeat again after 3 hours, and then once again 12 hours later, the sore never appears.
Or if its already there, I heard it disappears faster. The theory is that in order for them to grow, spread ect, the body temperature needs to be at a certain level in order to duplicate or surface. Therefore, if you continue applying the cold ice cube, it never gets the chance to surface because the temperature will be too low.
But make sure you don't overdo it, as the ice cube can have a burning effect if held there fore more than 3 minutes or so.
Might as well give it a shot!! Ice cubes are Free!

It finally went away after SEVEN WEEKS! Now I know why it lasted so long. I've had a sinus infection for three months! I thought it was just allergies making me miserable. Then I went to the doctors and he put me on an antibiotic. Bingo, the cold sore went away.

I guess my immunity system was working overtime for three months battling this infection, that's why the cold sore hung around.

So I guess nutrition is essential to ward off outbreaks. Keep yourself strong my fellow sufferers. Good luck.
