Today I went to my 4 week post op appointment. The doctor told me today that he wanted me to start putting pressure on my right foot. He showed me how to walk but still using both crutches to balance on. Also he told me in about 2 weeks I should be able to walk without crutches and the boot! Walking felt very good today that I decided I didnt really need to use the crutches to balance myself. If for some reason my foot starts to hurt I am going back to using them for balance.
He did tell me that I shouldnt use lotion near my toes, just on the incision. I guess after I shower I applied too much lotion in between the toes, then put the ace bandange on, and the moisture from the lotion kept building up. Now the skin in between my toes is really soft and wrinkly.
I am ready to have my bunion removed on my other foot but I was advised not to have that surgery for another 6-7 months.
Good Luck to everyone!

hopalong,

All of the recovery stories sound different, but yours sounds very similar to mine. I had a bunion and bunionette removed on 9-15-2003. I was allowed no weight on my foot for 6 weeks. I am now about 9 weeks pot op and walking with my boot. I just gave up my crutches. The last 2 weeks I only used them for any distance. They are such a pain around the house. No matter where I set them they were in the way. My foot looks good, but is still slightly swollen. I hope to be in a regular shoe in another week or two. Mine was a redo of earlier bunion surgery. I get the other one done in 4 or 5 months.

Good luck

hopalong,

I agree. All recoveries sound different. Go with what your doctor advises if you have confidence in him. If you doubt what he says, get a second opinion. I wish I had three surgeries ago.

Supermom,

Glad to hear you will be walking in regular shoes again! I go to the doctor on wednesday and then he'll tell me if I'm ready for tennis shoes, I really hope so, I am sick of bumming rides off of people.

Have a good Holiday Season!
