My 4 year old daughter went to the doc yesterday with an ear infection. Well this morning her drum ruptured and yellow pus ran out of her ear. She had this happen a year ago. She is hardly ever sick. She has had only 2 ear infections in her life , and they both ruptured. How common is the rupturing and what can I do to prevent it in the future, or can I?

My 3 year old is healing from a ruptured eardrum. We have chronic ear infections in our home and 2 of our kids have tubes in their ears. I can only say from my own family but he is the only one who has actually had the eardrum rupture and it has only happened the one time. I should have noticed the signs of the ear infection but didnt. That would be my only advice is to watch out for the signs and listen when she says it hurts.
