Hello,

Today the most bizarre thing happened. I went to a new doc to get trigger points, the needle was bigger than I was used to and when it was going in below my cheek it felt in there longer than I was used to.

I felt really light headed for about a minute, then I couldn't breathe and started hyperventalating, I really thought I was going to die, I was seeing blurry and embarrasingly screaming for help while trying to grasp for air.

They rushed in an IV and oxygen mask and I came back to conscinesss a little while later. Now my whole right side of the face is so numb I can't feel anything, even my tounge is numb and I swear I could taste the stuff in my mouth.

Ive done so much neuromuscular work, now my right side is pulling to the right again, do you think this will pull it out of wach? should I TENS the left for an hour to help even things out?

When will this TMJ nightmare end

Hi there,
I'm sorry that you had to go through this. Scary stuff. The same exact thing happened to me.. It was my first appointment with a new doc, and we decided to do injections in the joint... It hurt so bad (and I was so nervous) that I passed out. All I heard was people yelling around me & then I woke up. The next time that I had these type of injections done, they gave me versed. I don't know if you are familiar with that drug, but it just makes you really groggy and although you are awake, you do not remember much of anything. Maybe they can do that for you if you are going to be getting these injections on a regular basis?
As far as your face being numb, I would give it a couple days, and if it still is, I would call the doc and go in to see what he says.
Again, sorry you had to go through this, I know how hard it is, but it WILL get better....

Hi mdla:

I'm haven't had the injections myself, but wanted to say I'm sorry you had to go through that experience. I hope your face feels better real soon. I'd be concerned about doing the injections again.

Hope you feel better. Take care,
Arleen

Are they following up on the situation? What did they say? I would immediately see a neurologist--on an emergency basis if necessary. If there is nerve damage, treatment must begin immediately to prevent permanent problems. Was this a medical doctor that did the trigger point injection?

Hi all

Thank you for your replies, I just stayed in bed most of yesterday. They are not sure why it happened but he said the fluid runs everywhere even to your brain! I guess I am going to go to the more expensive pain managment center from now on. The needles are much smaller and I guess they do more TMJ injections so they know how much is too much. I am still feeling somewhat light headed, but I think it was more scary than anything. My numbness of the tounge & lips is gone.

The only good thing, therese been a monster of a muscle spasm inside my mouth for over a year - just behind the teeth on the right side where you open. My phy. therpy people have not been able to make a dent in it iwth the in the mouth pressure. One night 6 months ago I tried pressing on it to get it to release and I poped scar tissue and the mouth was bleeding inside (it was gross) so Ive not touched it since, this seems to have taken it down a lot.
