I am in the process of having crowns placed on implants. I wanted two opinions, cost was certainly a factor. The oral surgeon who placed the implants recommended a dds (not a specialist) he knew. I went there first, $5500.00 for the work. I went to a prothesdontist next, who I visited before and price is 3400.00. I chose the specialist. Note same materials will be used. The oral surgeon called me up basically complaining why I went to his guy first and then chose the specialist to do the work. First, the appointment schedules worked out that way, second cost is a factor. The dds price was no where near reasonable customary cost (900.00 per crown). I trust both doctors do good work, but with no insurance, cost is a factor. Should I feel (be made to) like I did something "wrong"?

never feel bad for shopping around to suit your budget. some dentists/doctors charge way too much, and don;t understand how important it is to find the best deal when you are paying out of pocket. that's a lot of money to be spending, i applaud you for getting a second opinion. people do the same thing with cars and other objects, there should be no reason to feel bad for this at all.
