Hi
I don't even know what to do. There are so many diets out there. I want to lose weight because at 5'5 265lbs I feel like I'm a whale and I'm only 20 years old. I don't go out anymore,I feel depress, Low selfsteam and I feel like I can't go on like this. I have to lose at least 120lbs. I heard about Aitkins but it says that is not good for the brain (I can't go on this diet because I 'm studying for my boards test),Cortislim (I can't go on this one cause I can't afford it), Counting calories( can't do it cause I stay hungry and eat too much afterwards) Gastric bypass( Too much money and I heard that you might gain the weight back) I'm desperate here!!! Don't know what to do anymore. It seams like all those diet pills are living off all of us. I can't take this anymore, I'm always in a bad mood cause I can't fit in any of my clothes and I can't go out cause of this.
 If any of you guys can help please respond or just email me at: [removed]

I know exactly what you are going through. I am 26 years old, 5'5 and weigh 265! Amazing! I am considering Gastric Bypass surgery b/c I have tried just about everything. I was down to 217 2 summers ago, and I'm not real sure what happened, but I gained it all back. I haven't changed my eating habits since then...could be the Depo shot, maybe. Who the heck knows? I know that I am very frustrated EVERY DAY and can't stand to think what other people think when they see me or when they see me eat. I don't have any real advice for you, except to hang in there, cuz I am. Let me reassure you about something, though (and you didn't say whether you had a bf or not) but there is someone out there that will LOVE you no matter what. I am living proof of that. I got married on Oct. 11 and my husband doesn't care what I look like. I overheard him talking to my son about me and he was asking Isaiah if his gf was as beautiful as his mommy. My heart never felt so good. So don't worry....hang in there.

I know exactly what you mean about the clothes. I hate going shopping and seeing all the pretty "skinny" clothes. Then go to my section and see all the floral prints and crappy clothes there. Anything worth buying is expensive, like Lane Bryant and Tommy Hilfiger. But I keep my eye open for the Tommy jeans, cuz they fit my body style the best.
I didn't mean to imply that you wanted to be skinny to find a man, I know exactly what you are going through, and I am so glad that you have someone. Even though we are overweight, it makes it a LITTLE easier to have someone and know that we are loved. I have a hard time with ME, still, but he doesn't. I will get ahold of ya!

I know alot of people that have tried WW and had amazing results. Maybe I'm making excuses, but I can't see myself doing the WW thing. Maybe I haven't hit rock bottom, yet and that's my problem. I know that I can't stand the body that I see in the mirror and I'm so afraid that if I join, I will fail. I've failed every other option that I've tried and I can't see me spending the money on that to fail again. I was going to Curves for about 6 months 4-6 times a week FAITHFULLY, and was watching what I put into my mouth. Guess what....I GAINED 12 POUNDS and 1 1/2 inches all over! WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? I was listening to Dr. Phil on the radio and he had someone on there for his weight loss challenge and he had a medical problem where his body was actually eating his muscle instead of his fat. Maybe I'll go get tested for that. I'm getting outta here, getting really depressed....

:nono: I suggest everybody just quit dieting!!! This has taken me 2 years so far but I have not put back on one pound. I am on my on food plan.. it is called I Choose. I eat what "I Choose" I just have to take responsibility for what I chose!
No one has put the food in my mouth since I was a baby.. I did it myself.. so I decided I could just start makeing better choices. It is a LONG learning process but can you think of a better reason??? So far I have gone from a Size 32 to a 22 and from 289 to 240. I have gotten into a online support group that emails encouragement daily and will hear me gripe when being sabatoged!!
Think about it!!

Hello!!
Well, I am way bigger than you and used to be really depressed.
For almost a year I gradually started to change my eating habits and little by little I got used to eat more healthy foods and the unhealthy stuff in more reazonable quantities. I didnt really lose any weight, but I didnt get bigger either.
I dont know what really happened, but over a month ago I started to be more positive about the way things were and finally decided to get serious about losing weight. I stopped drinking soft drinks and forgot about Burger King and Mc Donalds. I also started to use a supplement wich I knew really worked but I never had the will to use it constantly as it should. Lots of vegetables and fruits are now in my daily menu, along with a sandwich from Subway, I prefer to eat from the low fat menu.
Anyways, I eat like 5 times a day (vegies, fruts and no-fatty stuff, etc.), and my daily calorie intake is about 1500 calories, wich is suposed to be healty and safe. Today I was really surprised to learn I already lost 16 pounds in 38 days (I think, I am not so sure about the count, but it should be around that amount) and I didnt really suffer with hungers because I ate a lot, even if all of it was low calorie stuff like salads and fruits. I feel full of energy and really motivated, all this just makes me wanna keep going till I have the body that a 22 year old should have.
What I am trying to say with all this stuff is that you shouldnt get depressed, I am sure you will be able to lose weight, you just need the right attitude and some willpower to do whatever you want!!!
I also really hate shopping, cus all the stuff I find doesnt look good on me, I am too fat, but I dont get depressed because I know that will change soon. I have 2 little sisters and one younger brother, all of them younger than ten, and I dont want them to get my bad eating habits that would surely cause them trouble in the future. That just adds more fire to my determination.
I am sure you will eventually find something that will motivate you on your quest to lose weight, once you realize that eating healty foods isnt as bad as it looks you will drop pounds really fast and keep them off, we just have to wait for that day. Please, dont get depressed.

Hello all,
I am new to your forum but I've been reading some interesting things, I am currently on the 6wk makeover diet and have been for about 4 weeks and I am down 18pounds. I more than likely won't lose a whole 30 by 6 weeks because I find that I have to modify some of what I eat because I am a type A which is restrictive but sometimes I want to eat a little more. I've tried lots and lots of things but the weight came back so I am working with my nutritionist who likes the concept of the bodymakeover but with modification to help me stay on it. It actually teaches you a way of life and as the weight comes off more and more then your alphabet number changes to let you eat what ever you want when you finally get to be a type C or D . WW/Jenny Craig are wonderful which is probably what I should have been on but losing 1/2 pound to 1 pound a week discouraged me. I know nothing works overnight but my results were better with this program. Whatever program you choose to do, please get your doctors support, its well worth it.
Thanks again guys for letting me talk.

Do not despair and do not get confused by all the different diet plans that are out there. Adopt a lifestyle change that incorporates clean eating and fitness and care for yourself. Here are some ideas that will help you - I believe in this as it helped me get into the best shape of my life.
Eat 6 small, nutrient dense meals a day spaced about 2.5 hours apart. There should be a portion of lean protein in every meal.
Eat fresh, whole foods - if it comes in a box, can or packet do not eat it.
Good proteins include: lean beef and steak, lean pork (chops), chicken and turkey breast, salmon, tuna and other cold water fish, eggs and egg whites.
Good carbohydrate foods include fibrous vegetables such as: broccoli, lettuce, cauliflower, zucchini, tomotaoes, asparagus, green beans, squash cucumber, spinach.
Good carbohydrate foods include starchy vegetables/grains such as: oatmeal, yams, brown rice, all-bran, beans.
Fresh fruit (but in moderation) is OK.
Good fats include: flax oil, Udo's oil, fish or salmon oil caps (all for essential fatty acids), olive oil (esp. extra virgin olive oil), extra virgin coconut oil, natural peanut butter, butter. Nuts such as almonds, macadamias, brazil nuts (in moderation).
Do not eat ice cream, pizza, bacon, sausage, other processed deli meats, cookies, chips, soda drinks, diet soda drinks, cakes and desserts, donuts, pastries, diet soda, artificial sweeteners, table sugar, other simple sugars, honey, chocolate, candies, fruit juices, processed sugar-added cereals, corn, potatoes, white rice, bread, gravies, sauces, flour products (especially white flour), pasta. Do not eat fried foods. Avoid trans-fats, e.g., no margarine, vegetable shortening, etc. Do not eat junk food like McD's, BK, KFC, etc.
Never skip one of your 6 meals, and never skip breakfast.
Drink 100 oz. or mor of fresh water a day - let water be the only thing you drink. Get 8 hours of good sleep a day. Take a multivitamin.
Work out your necessary caloric intake to maintain weight known as your 'total daily expenditure'. Eat 10% less than this to create a small caloric deficit - this insures you are eating enough and not starving yourself (leading to metabolic supression and triggering of the 'starvation response' - note: this is one of the main reasons that ALL diets which aim to restrict foods eventually fail).
Make a lifelong commitment to fitness - work out every day for at least 30 minutes (work up to this level if you are a beginner at such activities) - you should use a combination of strength training (lift weights) and aerobic training (walking, jogging, cycling, etc.). The strength training will preserve/enhance your lean muscle mass (and thus increase your metabolism through desired changes in your body's chemistry), while the aerobic training will effectively burn up calories creating the necessary caloric deficit for fat loss.
Try not to be self-concious and if you can afford it join a real gym and keep going back. There will be other people with the same goals as yourself and who knows you might make some friends and you can motivate each other. Don't worry about the ones who look fit and lean in the gym (they won't bother you and some of the kinder ones may actually help you and motivate you - remember the only reason they got where they are is they kept going back to the gym themselves!).

I was wondering what is wrong with eating the bacon and sausage and drinking diet pops?

Bacon and sausage tend to highly processed with additives like nitrates and salt and IMO, are not such a good source of lean protein as some of the other sources of lean protein I mentioned.
Diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners, e.g., aspertame which I think is just not good for you for a whole bunch of reasons. If you let your liver and kidneys operate under the cleanest conditions possible you will give yourself a head start and re-establishing your health.

I must second the suggestion to try WW online. I just started 8 weeks ago, and I have lost 7 pounds. (BTW-I am 22 years old, starting weight of 245, 5'4".) I have hope for the first time that I can beat this weight problem that has been a constant in my life since I was a toddler.

The best place to get Gastric Bypass Surgery in the USA is Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery. My sister had it done there. They have an all inclusive rate and one of the best complication rates in the country. Hi
