Here's some information on a sunrise clock. This will tell you what it is....
The Digital SunRise Clock by Bio-Brite gently wakes you to a simulated sunrise, the natural way as nature intended. An energizing way to start your day, without a jarring alarm.
Waking to the SunRise Clock, you will be in a better mood and feel more refreshed. These clocks can also used in treatment of seasonal depression(SAD).
This fully programable clock allows for 12 hour or 24 hour display.
The clock's light will slowly begin to shine 15,30,60, or 90 minutes before your wake-up time, gradually illuminating the room and becoming brighter until it is time for you to awaken. Also includes a back-up audible alarm. The SunRise Clock doubles as a great bedside lamp with a fully adjustable light. You can also use the clock's relaxing "sundown" sequence to help you fall asleep naturally as the light gradually dims at bedtime.
This clock also has a security mode to give the appearance someone is there, the light will turn on and off randomly between 4pm and 11pm when security mode is on.
Dimensions: 10" wide x 7" tall x 7" deep

I use one and I can't wake up (before sunrise) without it! In fact I can't wake up in a dark room period. If I open my eyes and see it's still dark, I will fall back to sleep within seconds. So it was the only solution when I started my new job and had to get up before sunrise.
I got mine about 6 years ago when they first came out. It still works just fine although I may get a new one soon that is digital and has battery backup. I love mine and is the one thing I will always have!
