View Full Version : Dr. prescribed me Pamelor & Maxalt...questions...

I was hoping to try Inderol again but my blood pressure was 88/60 and she said she did not feel comfortable giving me a beta blocker (since I might fall flat on my face when I stand up!).

Anyhow, she wanted me to try 50 mg of Pamelor each night before bed. I took it last night at 9:00 and by 9:50, I could hardly keep my eyes open. I slept so hard that I turned off my alarm and don't remember doing it! I jumped out of bed when I realized the time and somehow got the kids to school on time. Does your body ever get used to Pamelor or will it always make me this sleepy?

Also, I have a VERY dry mouth. Any suggestions for that? I've been drinking a lot of water, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I was also prescribed Maxalt - similar to Immitrex, although my Dr. says studies show it works better. I haven't tried it yet since I woke up with no headache today. Anyone tried this?

I am wondering...since we are going to be attending several Christmas parties this year, is it ok to NOT take the Pamelor one night if I am going to have several alcoholic drinks? Or should I just take the pill later when I get home?

Thanks for all your help and advice,
Jane

I have not tried pamalor. If you want to mix alcohol with your medicine you should talk to your local pharmacist or dr and see what they say. You could call and talk to a pharmacist anonomously if you wanted to. That would be the safest answer I can give you. I hope your medicines work for you.

I have low blood pressure and was on a calcium channel blocker - verapamil, and had no problems, except that it didn't help my headaches!

I used to be on pamelor, but started at 10mg so my body could get used to it first. Only got up to 20mg though. Only at the very begining of taking it did I feel tired immediately. I mostly felt the grogginess in the mornings. after a year, I had to get off it due to that reason. As far as alcohol, I always would just take them after drinking (when got home), or skipped a dose. As far as dry mouth, you should get used to it. Just continue to get lots of water.

I tried maxalt ..DIdn't like them as much as zomig. BUt everyone is different, and each triptan migraine med seems to affect everyone differently. so I'd expect if this doesn't work, you'll find one eventually.

Good luck.
