I need to loose a lot of weight. I want to loose around 60 Lbs. I have been on this diet for 5 days so far, and I have lost a nice 5 lbs in those 5 days. This is my diet. First I eat breakfast, and this can be anything as long as it is filling and under 300 Calories. Over the last 5 days the average calories for my breakfast was 250 Calories. Between breakfast and dinner, I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, and I mean a lot. I eat two Bananas, 50 4-inch celery sticks (yes, I mean 50 4 inch long sticks), I also have ½ of a pomegranate. Therefore, my body is constantly getting food from breakfast to dinner. All of those fruits and veggies are around 300 calories. Then for dinner I have anything I want, but it has to be filling and under 600 Calories. Therefore, my total calorie intake for the entire day is 1200 calories. Every day I have had between 1100-1200 calories this week. Now I know dieting alone is not enough so I do exercise a little. I do 50 Crunches, 30 sit-ups, a light jog for 30 minutes, and then I finish it off with 30 Jumping jacks, and 50 knee lunges. Every day so far I have lost 5 lbs on this diet, and I think that’s good for only 5 days. Only 55 more lbs to go. Do you think this diet should work if I stick to it.

Well what do you think of my plan. Will it work or not. Is this a good diet or a bad diet. Am I working out enough or not.

You need to be more specific. What exactly do you have for breakfast and dinner? The scarey part of this to me is that you can eat anything you want. I never really heard of the "anything you want diet plan", unless of course anything you want is all wholesome foods (which I highly doubt).

Without seeing what you eat the best way to lose weight and to maintain it is to make a lifestyle change and eat nutritious, wholesome, healthy foods. Processed foods and refined foods are not part of the equation. The new diet needs to include plently of fruits and veggies plus protein, and dairy. Diet soda, or really any kind of soda should not be included. There should be plenty of water and exercise. By eating normal sized portions and following what I have listed is a healthy way to lose weight and to maintain it.

To lose weight you *can* eat anything you want, but you probably shouldn't. Weight loss itself isn't a healthy state for your body to be in - think about it, if weight loss were inherently healthy you body would be inclined to do it more often. Weight loss is good for what it brings - good health at a stable weight at which you body is comfortable. That said, if you eat just anything you are probably starving your body of at least some essential nutrients. Weight loss ultimately boils down to calories in vs calories used. Your body is a piece of physical matter, it must obey the laws of thermodynamics and conservation of energy. No matter what diet plan you are on, you will not lose weight if you consume more calories than you expend. So to lose weight calories are what matters, but for good health, nutrition is what matters. Also, it is tough to keep calories down while you are eating foods high in sugar and fat.

As girlygirly said, you aren't quite precise enough and don't have all the exacts down for your diet plan. I believe that with the plan you are using, your body is losing weight and fat pretty fast now, but you will have to realize that with that plan, it won't be 1lb/1day. Drink lots of water, stay away from any soda or pop, but don't eliminate some juices and other liquids completley. I also don't believe your workout is enough. I don't want to be rude or boasting in anyway, but I could probably take your workout while I am sleeping. Crunches build muscles in your abs, but they don't necessarily burn fat. I would suggest you continue your job but intensify it a bit more and possibly increase the length. Try jump roping and some other cardiovascular workouts. Maybe you should hit the gym, also.

By the way, the foods you are eating in your diet, make sure you get enough of other food groups besides vegetables and fruits, I don't know if you could get enough grains and proteins in there in your day.

On the upside, your celery sticks and healthy snacks are a positive way to increase your metabolism, but perhaps you should spread them more throughout the day rather than during breakfast and dinner.

Keep up your work, don't giveup on yourself, and praise yourself everytime you stay away from ice cream or chocolate, or anything that will interfere with your diet!

Every person is a bit different, calories expended is a function of lifestyle, muscle mass, etc etc... The fact that you have been losing weight is a good sign which means it works. Exercise will help tremendously because it will boost your metabolism. The most important thing about trying to adhere to a diet is setting realistic goals - not making your diet plan so tough that you wont be able to follow it. Just dont place too much emphasis on day to day weight gain/weight loss. I find it funny when people on this board freak out because they gained a pound or when they are happy because they lost a pound or two since the day before. Your body will have a range or weight based upon how much waste you have in your system and your level of hydration. Losing five pounds is certainly a good achievement, but dont get discouraged if you find that one day you weigh the same(or more) as the day before. Weight loss does tend to plateau at some point - at which you will need to shake your plan up a little, but just keep a positive attitude and stay focused! Good luck!

The person who says my workout each day is not enough, I agree so I added more to it. Now I do 30 min of strength training each day too. I do not work out like 3 times a week but every day. In addition, the last time I checked Celery, banana, and pomegranate where good foods to eat. My breakfast really is anything that will get me full, but it must be less than 300 calories. I just eat low calorie food for breakfast that full my body up. For Dinner I eat just eat how much food I need until I get full, but always under 600 calories. I am never starving my self. However, I do eat less than 1200 calories a day. In addition, I take a multi vitamin each day, so I do get enough of those. Also for Zodiac, the Celery sticks are throughout the whole day. I eat a few each hour. I spread them out, so my body always thinks it has food. Today I also decided to drop one banana and by soy drink. This drink has 90 Calories in it and 7 Grams of Protein. Also for breakfast, if you wanted to know I eat a lean cuisine. They have between 240-280 calories in them, if you wanted to know.

In response to:

It is not recommended that you do strength training every day, as your muscles need a chance to rest in between. What I have heard most from "experts" is that you should work out for no more than 3-4 days in a row, then take a day off, and repeat. I have followed this for the past two and a half months now and find that it works really well. You should also vary the intensity of your routines and not start off with too difficult of a routine for two reasons- 1) you likely won't stick to it if it's too much and 2) you increase your risk of injury if you use too much weight for your fitness/ strength level.
Just something for you to consider!
I'm not a believer of low-cal diets, because I don't think they work long-term... after all, can you see yourself eating like that forever? That's just my take on it... I think that the body is a lot like a car, in that it needs adequate high-quality fuel to deliver peak performance!

chipmunkis;
There is a big controversy over what's best for best results on strength training and such. As you said, one opinion is that you need to basically kill your muscles, then let them rest for a bit, then kill again, etc. The other major opinion on this is that when you workout your muscles increase in size, and over the next 48 hours following your workout, water is drained from muscles and their size decreases. Which leads some to believe that if you workout everyday, your muscles won't shrink as much. Also, water helps keep the size from decreasing drastically (and helps from dehydration and etc.:))

So, you either workout heavy and rest, or you workout light or heavy, but don't rest.

But chip, a lot of experts will agree with you, but a lot won't. Thanks for bringing the topic up, helps us all educate ourselves and others. :)

VTBoy, you can either take chips advice and go every other day or 3 days straight then a few rest, etc, or you can workout everyday. I think that either of those work, but your body might get better results from one over the other, because everyones body will result from it and gain differently. So, feel free to take your time and make up your mind on your workout routine.
