Hello, my daughter is a preteen and experienced her first period August of this year. In September she had her second one and the flow was VERY heavy, the problem is now she hasn't had another period at all since then. She does take medication for ADHD which she has been one for a couple of years ( which may or may not have any affect - I don't know either way). Does anyone know if this is "normal" ?

I'm not sure about the ADHD meds. I was on Ritalin in college and didn't have any change in my cycles. I do know that some of them have sexual side effects. I have never heard of them having any effect on menstruation. It wouldn't hurt to post the question under ADHD to see if any of the moms there have seen any changes due to the meds.
Anyway, it is very normal for a woman's cycles to be very irregular at both extremes of her reproductive years - adolescence and perimenopause. She probably isn't ovulating yet and will be irregular for a few years. If her periods do come back heavy, it would be a good idea to talk to her pediatrician about it. If her pediatrician doesn't feel equipped, s/he can make a referral to a gyn that understands adolescent cycles.

I appreciate the response and will take your advice under consideration. I know periods aren't the same for everyone but I wasn't sure about it just "stopping" like that.
Thanxxx again :)

Thanxxx ..... it's been sooo long ago since I had my 1st one I truely couldn't remember how "irregular" they can be. I just wasn't sure if ADHD meds might also affect them. I posted this on the ADD forum as well but so far no one else is sure either.
