Okay so I know this sounds dumb and you may not want to even help me becuase I have never really trusted alternative medicines but I am hoping someone will be open minded. Does anyone know if there is anything I can take to help stop "shedding" as my bf likes to refer to it. I have a serious problem with hair loss and the only thing I have left is to ask here. My doctor said there was nothing I could do that I would just have to live with it but I can not accept that!! It is really bad I lose so much hair everyday i cry sometimes and think I might have a disease but the doctor reassured me that I dont. The next appoint I have is going to test my testosterone levels and see if they are too high!! Please someone give me an answer!! thank you

Well, I am 65 yrs old and my hair started growing about 4 yrs ago and I was taking 6 capsules a day of 1000mg Flaxseed oil. Today my hair is down to my waist and I get compliments every day.
Also, you probably need some Co-q-10 because lack of oxygen in your blood will cause you to lose hair.
I am not a doctor, nor am I prescribing. This is simply a suggestion.

supplementing with zinc can also help with hairloss.

Hi,
Is your hair kinda flat and dull? Is your skin dry? Do you get enough iodine in your diet?
My hair was falling out and was everywhere in the house, clogging drains, all over the floor, everywhere. Quack told me I was just "aging".
Then I was found to be hypo and started to boost my iodine with Kelp from GNC, within weeks my hair started to change. Now it is full of body, is no longer falling and I am getting compliments. You can turn it around easily.
The Kelp is about $10 a bottle and lasts a long time. At first you may want to take 1 twice a day as I did.
Good luck
Liz

This topic interests me as i was shedding for no apparent reason for quite a long time. I changed to a shampoo which didn't contain sulphates and this helped me with my moulting problem, but i'd still like to give some other things a go.

My doctor explained that when the body has a horrible stress; like almost dying or something, that the hair follicles all fall out at the same time, and it is noticeable about 2 months later (not sure on the time) then they get back into a rotating 'fall out' and things go back to normal.

So, have you been under some very stressful situation?

When did this start and for how long?

You probably already know that hair loss is one symptom of too much exposure to a chemical ... probably lots of them. I know it is true for those with too much exposure to 2-butoxyethanol, a very common cleaning compound in household cleaners to gun cleaner & in some pesticides as well as paint.

Are you exposed to that chemical in the type of work you do?

Go surfing the net & become an expert in all the products you use and their hazardous ingredients. You can check the product for the MSDS (material safetly data sheet) and if you know the ingredient that is hazardous check that, too. The experts often go to [removed].com

You might want to have a couple of blood tests done by your doctor to make sure you don't have a hormonal imbalance that is causing this. Too much testosterone in your blood can cause it (I had that, and I shedded a lot, even though that was really my only symptom besides messed up female cycles). Also, thyroid issues can cause it. If it is too much testosterone, saw palmetto can help. Pantothenic acid REALLY helped my husband with his hair loss (stopped it in its tracks), he takes ~5 grams per day, it's water soluble, so your body gets rid of what you don't need. My mom had thinning hair for a while, and a combination of zinc, selenium, and vitamin E helped her.

I agree with having your hormones checked. You should have your thyroid checked as hair loss could be a symptom of thyroid disorder. I would be careful with the kelp because if you have a thyroid disorder it could create more problems than it solves. I agree with the last poster, taking those 3 supplements will benefit your thyroid termendously. Even if it isn't your thyroid they are great supplements to take.
