View Full Version : Has anyone overcome dairy products allergies?

Our eight year old son has been allergic to dairy products since he was 1 year old.

When he was a baby a typical reaction was severe asthma problems and hives.

Now, it seems it more a tickling feeling or irritation in his mouth with perhaps a mild case of hives.

So it seems that he is beginning to overcome his dairy allergies but I wanted to know if anyone has an effective method for helping to speed this process along.

The reason I ask is that he is also underweight and we think that if we could add dairy products to his diet, he could perhaps gain weight.

Thanks

I would be very interested in any answers to this also. My son, who is 3 months old, has anaphylaxis in reaction to milk protien, and though the doctors all tell me that most milk allergies can be outgrown, I am skeptical that this intense of an allergy will ever go away.

I have a friend who's daughter has severe reactions (anaphylactic) to only whole milk (she can eat cheese, yogurt, etc.). Her allergist also told her that she will probably outgrow the problem. I was surprised to hear that also (my daugther is 3.5 yrs and still is allergic to all dairy)but maybe there is some truth to it.

I wonder why see only reacts to whole milk??

Hello

In reading through the internet, And I am sorry I cant remember where,BUT
What I remember reading was
That people are generally allergic, or sensative to the chemicals found in milk and dairy, and when they tried organic milk,They didnt have any trouble.

This may be different for children,
I have no idea I just saw your posts and thought I would mention it.
If I happen to come accross article,I will paste it on this board, under a new thread.
Take care
good luck,
and I hope this helps.

My son had a milk allergy from the time he was born, same as my middle daughter. My son outgrew his by the time he was 5. He used to throw up, didn't gain any weight, his asthma went through the roof and so on. It was a really bad reaction. The dr. told us to try a little bit of milk on a yearly basis to find out if he was still allergic.

My daugher on the other hand, is still allergic. The dr. figures she may never outgrow it but we'll see. She can't eat anything with any milk or her stomach and asthma go sky high!

My friends son would have an anaphylactic reaction every time he comes near milk!! The dr. told her he may outgrow it but she should never give him a "test" unless he was sitting in the dr. waiting room in case it happened again. He couldn't eat anything with any type of milk product (which just about eliminates everything).

Good luck everyone. Allergies are sure a pain aren't they??

Milk allergies no longer! I am 45 and have had severe allergies to milk and casseinate which is a by product to milk. I have been on a restrictive diet that I imposed on myself to avoid all the occurences of dairy so I could stop taking allergy medicine.
My secret is nasal irrigation with common table salt and baking soda. Wow! The 1st day I started using it and the very next day I could eat dairy again. I use it twice a day and feel like a new person. It turned my food allergies off like a light switch. I can eat anything with no running nose, sneezing, irritability and NO DRUGS! There is hope.....good luck.

There are products that you can buy to irrigate the nose with salt water and baking soda. NO DRUGS! I use 1/2 tsp of common iodized salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda (my allergist recommended the baking soda) for each 1/2 cup of warm tap water. My allergist gave ($20) me this nasal irrigator which is a syringe type device with a soft silicon tip which you lightly press against your nose and the whole process is painless and takes less than 2 minutes.
I have been using it for 3 weeks now and have had no allergic reactions to dairy, chicken, or coffee. I can eat anything and my life is back to well normal. I feel great! I feel like I have 30% more energy everyday.

There are many products out there, but this is working super for me.
