in the past i have gotten these same symptoms for a few days.
for the past few couple of days i have had this headache...it hurts on the front top of the left side of my head...i lil above my eyebrows..under my eyes...on my nose...around my ears and my glands are swollen on my top neck... my top teeth also ache, more on the left side where all the pain is, its like an aching feeling in my gums...my eyes are pretty sensitive to light and my neck, shoulders hurt, as if my all my glands are swollen and usually i feel weak when i get these headaches. the pain in my head sometimes throbs when i'm sleeping and get up. but moreso feels like a bad aching pain. as if my brain is swollen. haha for the past few weeks i have felt as if i've had a sinus infection...i have lots of mucous draining down my throat and into my stomache, but my nose isnt runny, its kinda just barely bleeding inside when i try to blow my nose and it feels dry. and its impossible for me to cough out the mucous. i also have a weird smell in my nose, kindof like what your hands smell like after you have ate chicken or something. haha
my headaches get worse if i smoke, or smell insense or anything like that.
and often sometimes it hurts so bad that it makes my stomache hurt. lately from all the drainage, but sometimes from the pain.
tylenol makes helps it almost immidiatly for an hour or 2 so that helps.
i dont know how to get rid of it for good though or what to tell the doctor.
because i'm not sure if this is sinuses or what.
i read that sinus headaches are uncommon and 75% of the people who think they have sinus headaches have migraines.
so i was just wondering if you think that could be sinus related or a migraine?
that way i know what medicines to take and what not and how to treat this, also, what to tell my doc.
thanks

Hi prncssxjx
I was experiencing almost the same symptoms on and off since October. The only diference was that my headaches and head pressure were sometimes accompanied by dizziness. Back in November my headache was so bad, I drove into an ER of a hospital nearby because I had no idea what was causing it. A few weeks earlier my doc had suggested I had a sinus infection, but like you, I really didn't feel congested or had much discharge. At the ER they did a CT scan of my head and found nothing alarming so sent me back off to my doc. He continued to treat me for a sinus infection and eventually referred me to an ENT. After 2 more months of headaches and dizziness (by the way driving is really hard because I get a little dizzy), they did a CT Scan of the sinuses specifically, and did prove that my sinus linings were inflamed and diagnosed me with sinusitis. It's been a real struggle, but just in the last two weeks they started injecting steriods directly into my sinuses and I think (I hope) this might be helping. My ENT said he doesn't think I actually have much congestion, but he sees that my sinus lining is inflammed, so this is considered sinusitis as well. All of these things are commonly called a sinus infection, although with a true infection you should experience congestion, pressure, headache, gross discharge and I've heard of many stories of an odor coming from the infected mucous.
I an 100% certain that a sinus infection, or sinusitis, etc., causes severe headaches and pressure. Everything in your head (incl. ears, eyes) is so intimately related to the sinuses that any type of pressure can cause headaches behind the eyes, into the ears, etc. During one of my worst weeks, I also had a severe earache and swollen glands under my ear by my jaw. My sinuses were really bad and there was so much pressure. My bro who is a doc said that it sounded like my glands were doing exactly what they should be...draining the infection (I may not have translated that properly). Also, don't forget, you have sinus cavities in you cheecks, next to your nose, above your eyes, and towards your ears. If you get sinusitis in any of these, all can feel affected.
The regular docs seem to get kinda frustrated with sinusitis symptoms because maybe they know that what is happening really isn't life threatening, but we patients come in all panicked and freaked out like we have a brain tumor. They really should appreciate how scary and upsetting it is, not to mention how horrible the patient really feels. My ENT seems to understand, but he sees this all day so nothing I say stikes him as odd.
After the second round of steroid shots (I have to do one more) and 6 months of absolute suffering (I have never had a sinus problem before), I am finally convinced that all my deadly symptoms were related to the sinusitis. It is really hard to believe when you feel like such an invalid. Get to the ENT, because even the RX's that my regular doc was perscribing was making me worse because they were decogestant/antihistamines. Antihistamines dry you out, and in my case I needed the lining to thin out instead of dry up. I also use saline nose spray, drink tons of water, use a humidifier, and a steriod nose spray of the aqueous form (so not to dry out). Smoking of course isn't good, cause you don't need the tar going up there, and any sinus sufferer will tell you alcohol (esp. beer)can cause a major attack. I guess the alcohol can make your blood vessels in your head expand. So while your getting better, you will also give your lungs and liver a break, but sadly life can get pretty boring! Sorry so long, but you sound like you're suffering and it sounds a lot like what I've been going through and really found help from everyone here on this site.
Good luck and be well.....

I had similar symptoms off and on for years. I was finally diagnosed with migraines. I take medications that have stabilized my headaches somewhat.I was treated for sinus for years off and on with antibiotics ,but my headaches were actually migraines.
Although, in your case it sounds like sinus infection too.Sometimes sinus infection can also trigger a migraine. I saw a neurologist as well as nose, ear and throat specialist.Hope you feel better.

A good thing to do. Sit in a chair, bend down and if it really hurts....that's sinuses!

Just wondering if you've had a cold lately. A couple of months ago a friend of mine had a cold and a runny nose. The runny nose stopped for a while, but while she was sitting at the computer one night she became very dizzy. After crawling up the stairs and getting into the bathroom she felt like she was going to pass out. She finally called a friend to take her to the hospital. Her sinuses were blocked and the stuff that should have been coming out of her nose was all just sitting up there! She was given antibiotics and said the stuff she was coughing and blowing out was absolutely digusting!

thanks prncssxjx and maichim. i have had very similar syptoms. i think the drainage down the throat is a sign of classic sinus infection. the sinuses are designed to drain down the throat, and just because it's not making it to the nose does not mean there's no discharge.
i have had daily sinus headaches for 3 years plus swollen lymph nodes under the ears for about the same time. i have had sinus surgery and been on numerous nasal sprays and rounds of antiobiotics. it is certainly frustrating.
one of the easiest, cheapest, and rarely discussed treatments is saline irrigation. there is a doctor named murray grossan who makes an attachment to a water pik to spray into your nose. he also has an excellent web site. i think it's ent-consult.com. but an even easier method is a spray bottle with pre-mixed packets of sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. www.nasalrinse.com. (http://www.nasalrinse.com.) i can't say they will cure you, but when you are feeling totally blocked up and allergic and you are sick of being hyped up on speed (pseudoephedrine products) you can do this very low tech approach. you can also make the mix yourself and use your own spray bottle. but if you do that, you should be concerned with everything being sterile and clean and that the water is purified or distilled.

A couple days ago I came down with a fever and a sore throat. Oddly, no runny nose. Strep test came back negative. Now, my sinuses feel fine, but behind my ears all the way down to my throat is a stabbing pain. It seems to get worse if I lay on one side, almost as if the ear is "filling" with something. Is this possible? Could it be that my sinuses are draining, but they're draining somewhere bad, like into my ears instead of my nose? Is this dangerous? It hurts a LOT; any ideas on how to make it stop?
Thanks!
Thanks!
