My son was just approved for a 504 Plan for ADD. Getting him approved was quite an ordeal. Now that it is approved, there will be a meeting with the teachers to develop the accomodations for him. I would like to know if any of you have suggestions for items that should be included here. He is 16 and in high school.
I'm new to the message board here. Would love to hear from anyone with experience in 504 plans
Thanks

Hi.Our 16 yr old son also has a 504.We requested he sit in the front of the class for the least amount of distraction. Also the teacher should call on him as often as possible without taking away from the other students for him to pay more attention. We also had his assignment book checked until this year because that did not work at all.Frequent phone calls from teachers and progress reports if his grades should start to slip for maximum communication.I hope this info helps and best of luck to you.Happy Thanksgiving.

Please look for my previous post
"School Accomodations for ADHD kids"
where I had the same question (My Username used to be Susi). Hope this helps.

my 9 yr old just was approved. What we asked for..
1. pick your battles. (actually states this)
2. Moved to the front of the room
3. study buddy
4. homework booked checked off by teacher
5. extra time on tests ( he freezes)
6. If he becomes squirmy, time to go burn it off for a few minutes ( he does jumping jacks in the supply closet)
7. no taking recess away. the burn off time helps.
8. extra time between class transition
9. also allowed to have a head phoned radio on the bus.
I have a few more but these are the main ones... HTH...
