View Full Version : Fluid-filled lump on my ankle

I have had a swelling on my ankle for years now(at least 10).It looks like a small lump over the ankle bone but my doctor says it's filled with fluid. How I got it:
I was using the weights in the gym doing calf-lifts and a few hours after i finished my legs pained and i could hardly walk or place my feet flat on the ground. I stayed like that for maybe two days and gradually things improved. After that i noticed an obvious swelling on my left ankle which does not pain at all. I went to the doctor some time after and he said it was nothing to worry about, that it was filled with fluid and would most likely burst internally on it's own during exercise. He called it something like "bible's disease" and said in ancient times people would drop heavy books like bible's on these swellings, in order to shatter them and force the fluid to drain inside. He said he could cut it, but that it would leave an obvious scar.
Ten years later and it is still on my ankle. It doesn't hurt or hamper my movements in any way, but for vanity's sake I've been thinking about getting it excised. Anyone have any info about this sort of swelling?
