and I suddenly get pretty severe heartburn (on day 5 of taking the Pamelor). I NEVER have heartburn (except when I was pregnant). It was so bad last night that I could hardly get to sleep. And this morning, it's still sort of there, although not as bad. I looked up Pamelor on the internet and sure enough, it can cause some people to have heartburn! I am so mad! I haven't had a headache since it started. But I can't stand this heartburn.
I'm wondering if I went from 50 mg daily to 25 mg, if that would make a difference. Any thoughts?

Ask your dr. or call the pharmacy to see if you can take tums or something with it. Also ask if taking it with food or milk will reduce the heartburn. My drug book doesn't call for problems with regular heartburn tablets but watch out for pepcid, tagamet, alka seltzer. I usually call the local Rite Aid Pharmacy--they seem to know more about the meds than the drs office.

Hi, I've been on Pamelor before. I always got bad heartburn if I didn't drink alot of water when taking the pill.
Pamelor really worked well for me for insomnia and depression, but the constipation is causes is horrible. At least for me. I went off of it for that reason. Nothing I did helped it.
I've heard of it being given for headaches, hope it works for you.

Well, I cut my dose in half. Now I'm taking 25 mg instead of 50. I have had one headache since cutting it down. Thanks for the tip on water. I haven't had heartburn since cutting it down either. I am still VERY constipated, though. That's a majorly bad side effect! It's too bad all these drugs have such bad side effects. Another one that was driving me nuts was this horrid taste in my mouth all day. It was like a metal taste. I would brush my teeth, suck on candy, anything to get rid of that taste. After cutting the dose, it went away.
I am hoping 25 mg is enough to ward off the headaches, we'll see.
