I wondered if anyone can give me any advice on a prob. I sometimes get what I can only decscribe as really bad acid reflux. I dont feel sick but I eventually have to throw up (and it tastes acidic). I could be watching tv and suddenly feel this pain creep up my throat, it makes me want to heave to bring it up, very unconfortable like heartburn in the throat. It puts me off eating and drinking anything because when it attacks it makes ordinary functions like this feel really painful. It has woken me up endlessly in the night, and interupted my days and I'm lost for a solution. I take metformin medication and it could be a side effect but I would like to know what to do about the problem, does anyone ever feel the same, what is the remedy???? It happens sometimes twice a week, at least once a month and lasts for about 36 hours.

hi, i too suffer from this horrible horrible thing! i've learned that you MUST avoid drinking soda and alcohol (or anything carbonated also) i usually just stick to water or iced tea these days. just doing that has cut back on the acid reflux a lot. also, when you sleep, make sure you're propped up on at LEAST two pillows. some people may even need three. you have to find out what kind of foods are causing your attacks. a lot of the time, it's foods that are high in sugar that can cause this to happen also. (at least in my case.. it could be different for you!)

you should talk to your doctor. i started taking famotidine (a higher dosage of pepcid) and that worked. the only thing i didnt like was that i had to take it twice a day and i would always forget to bring the pills with me. so then my doctor gave me protonix, which is great cause you only take it once a day. i stopped taking all the pills when i started feeling better, and now i control the reflux by watching what i eat.
